Trailer Coupler Locking Latch Hitch Pin

Are the trailer couplers supplied by Jayco delivered with any type of hitch pin to secure the locking latch and help prevent an accidental trailer disconnect?

The locking latch appears to accept a 1/4 in X 3 in pin.

I asked why one was missing when I took delivery and the technician advised it must be obtained by the owner. I have yet to find one.

Not that I know of....I just put a hitch lock on mine....wont keep them from taking it, but at least slows them down 30 seconds...

I bought one at Canadian Tire that takes a key to undo it. And, yes, I got two extra keys cut!!:hihi:

I have a hitch lock with keys now but a regular pin was provided with my trailer. I used it to come home when I bought the trailer and keep it for a spare.

I use a hitch lock on mine but the pin to attach the foot to the tongue jack also works.

I got mine at tractor supply w/ a pce of #12 chain to secure it to the safety chain.

I just use a small Wallyworld lock. Nothing will stop someone but they might make a little noise fighting with the lock.

Some of these locks also do the job of the pin. The lock just takes its place and noone can remove the pin while you are parked. It also acts as a hitch lock when you are disconnected.

I keep mine locked while traveling because I don't want to be in a resturant or something and have some body flip the latch up. 5th wheel owners need to keep an eye on the release lever incase of a disconnect by a passerby.

I always keep a small Master padlock on mine when traveling, but the pin that holds the foot on the tongue jack works fine too when I'm not concerned about security.

A pin came with ours (I can't imagine a dealer being so penny pinching they wouldn't supply a pin with the purchase - of course IMHO).

We use a locking pin for both our hitch and tongue just to keep honest people honest, and slow down an aspiring thief. LOL, of course the pro would have the tt gone in a blink. We use them while towing as well as when unhitched even in our side yard while stored :)

Bought my TT used, but that's a whole different thread! I didn't get a hitch pin at all...went to Lowes and bought a Reese locking kit for $35 that included a keyed hitch lock, a reciever bar keyed lock, and a coupler ball lock. Have to modify the coupler a little to accept the ball lock, but after having stuff stolen from my yard three weeks ago, I'm not taking any chances.:cussing:

Just a head's up (not a big deal). We bought a 'keyed alike' lock for our hitch and tongue from dealer... sheeesh, he said the one lock would fit our tongue :rolleyes: We went out to the tt and found that the tongue lock wasn't long enough! Had to take the set back. Went back to our original tongue/hitch locks. We have a separate lock for the hitch. Oh well :)

delayed entry -

etrailer delivered as promised. Both locks are keyed alike, fit perfectly and operate exactly as described.

Now we have confidence in our coupler latch remaining locked and the TT remaining securely attached to the TV even if unattended. It's worth the investment.

I bought both locks, the dealer didn't provide me with any of them, for the coupler i asked something to bring the trailer home and was given a screw argh.
