Just Came Home With Our First Camper - X17Z

Hey everyone.

My parents just bought the families first camper. Came home with it last week. They wanted something where anyone in the family could take it whenever they wanted. They wanted to be able to enjoy some time with the grandkids.

We all did research and looked at a lot of similar sized campers. We all found ourselves comparing the other campers to the Jayco. There were things we didn't like in other brands but I can honestly say there was nothing we didn't like about the Jayco. Perhaps after time we may come up with something that doesn't pop up right away since we are newbies, but so far so good.

My parents spent all weekend stocking the camper and trying to figure out just what they might need in it. Even though the season is ending here they wanted to take it out once or twice before it gets colder. They are already booked for 4 nights starting this Wednesday. lol

I went with my Dad last week to get a Honda 2000 generator. We wanted to get the companion but they weren't in stock. No biggie since they probably won't be using the AC till next spring anyway. Do you need to run both generators to continuously run the AC or do you just need the two of them to start the AC and can shut the second one off?

I look forward to browsing and reading this forum and hope to gain more knowledge about the camper.

You might get away with one IF you shut all the rest of the breakers off. Your converter, fridge, etc take a fair amount of power and with those on, one is not enough. I have a 2200 watt and it has no problem with my AC as long as it is the only thing hooked up. Remember that the unit cycles, so if it takes two to start - it will take two to keep it running.

My brother and I just went with my parents yesterday to set them up for the maiden voyage. They chose a campground at the beach with only water hookups. It took a bit to get everything all set up and started but we finally got it done. The hardest part was my brother trying to back the thing into the lot. lol

They're staying for 4 nights and the place is about 25 minutes from here. My brother and sister and their kids will probably be going out as well as my wife and I. The only downside is that the weather is awful. Had to setup in the rain and wind. Cloudy and chance of rain every day during their stay too.

From the looks of it, I'm sure everyone is going to enjoy this unit in the coming years.

Congrats and having a family camper to use! You are absolutely right about the use for years to come. My wife is 32 and I am 47- and she is on board with me- if we could afford it, we would be full timers. Our 5 year old daughter doesn't fit that life style....lol.....but every camping trip is like hitting the lottery for us- it is just plain and simple- the time of our lives.

My parents are coming home today after a 4 day trip. My brother and I went Wednesday to help them set everything up for the first time and we had dinner there. Nobody wet out Thursday due to bad weather but my sister, bro in law and their 3 young kids all went Friday for lunch.

My brother and his family went out yesterday and I went with my wife. It drizzled here and there but in the end everything went really well. Everyone really enjoyed it.

The campground is at a local beach. If you walk 2 minutes south you are at the ocean. If you walk 20 feet south then you are looking at a bay. The campground is on a very thin island. Lots of deer running around too.

My parents used to take us tent camping years ago and this is our first experience with a camper. It's funny because my Dad was already thinking of an upgrade in a few years. lol

LOL, we went to the big one in Pennsylvania a few weeks ago. In fact, that's where we bought the camper! lol

The camper was a full 5K less at the show then it was at home.

You will meet some of the nicest people while camping. One elderly person I met had a telescope. This peaked my interest in astronomy and many nights my kids and I would stargaze. My son has now taken several university courses on it. My in-laws had a trailer and that is how we got introduced to this lifestyle. When our kid were 3 and 5 years old we bought our first trailer. It had bunk beds and the kids loved it. Now close to retiring we look forward to being snowbirds.Ain't life grand!
