I am getting ready for my trip to Yuma on the 28th of December and my next door neighbour is already in that area and they phoned us last night to fill us in on their trip.

They left about the 2nd week of October in their 40 Ft. motor home and convoyed down with 3 other rigs including one 5th wheel. When they got to Mesquite NV, one of the motor homes developed a problem with the battery and had to start up the on board generator which caught on fire destroying the motor home but they managed to save the toad. The fire service did a fantastic job when they were told that all their money (5 grand in cash) was in one of the kitchen cupboards and except for a little singeing they managed to salvage the cash.

The other motor home had transmission problems that required a re-build, and the other guy in the 5th wheel with a new truck was towing it in the wrong gear and blew the tranny.

Only my neighbour made it down on time but then he was a bus driver for 30 plus years.

I hope I have better luck this year because Mesquite NV has been a curse for me as well when I hit a lamp standard and caused 5600 bucks worth of damage to my 5th wheel two years ago.

If I were you, I believe I would take a side trip via Grand Canyon and completely avoid Mesquite, even though it is the most direct route. These things shouldn't happen to good people but when it rains, it pours, as the saying goes. I am concerned what gear the 5er was pulling in when he shelled his transmission. At any rate, good luck to you and here's hoping the bad luck for you and your friends is over once and for all.

You may be right about Mesquite, but by the time I get there all I want to do is get to Yuma ASAP and sit back and relax for a couple of days.

I have no idea what gear he was in...BUT..... (this is for Seann) I think it was a Chev or maybe a Ford but definitely not a Dodge.:D

I will do that for you, but don't worry about my truck, it has had it's shots so it is immune to anything your truck can pass on.;)

That was a good one Seann. Be sure and let me know if you are in my neighborhood so we can have an adult beverage or two.
