Hot Water Temp

Howdy, all. We've had our 31BDHS out three times now and are having a blast. One thing could be better: if we could get the water a little more hot. For a shower we use only hot; of course this runs it out quickly. Is there any way to adjust the temp when using propane?

Also, the water heater doesn't work on the electric side. I've made sure all the breakers are going, but to no avail. I'm assuming I have an element out. Any recommendations?

Lots of possible issues, but with my limited knowledge I try to keep it simple.
Checking to be sure that the Water Heater is not isolated due to winterizing.
(That can also burn out an Electric element in the WH if turned on with no water in it)

Just be sure you have LP getting to stove/oven, furnace, outside grill (optional).

There may be an adjustment that can be made to the WH but I wouldnt do that kind of thing by myself. You may have more experience and knowledge to do so, I do not.

We had our WH Electric element replaced (or what-ever it is) last week. So to test it I turned off the LP to the WH and left the Electric on over night. We had very warm water in the morning, so it must be working.

Your WH owners manual will tell you if you can adjust the temp. Some you can and some you can't. If your WH was in the bypass setting for winterizing you wouldn't have any hot water at all and you would have burnt up the WH by now. Do a continuity check to see if the electric element is burned out with a multimeter or a continuity tester. They are fairly simple to replace.

Thanks, all, for the input. I don't have a manual for the unit.... I've contacted the local dealership, but they haven't been too "on it" when they find out we didn't buy from them :).

It appears the electric element is out.... The propane works well, but just doesn't get real hot. It would last a little longer for the four of us if it was a little warmer.

Thank you! We bought a 2006 31bdhs. It was a FEMA unit down in MS after Katrina. The inside needed a little TLC, but the outside is perfect. Some upholstery and carpet along with a good cleaning and we were ready to go!

We've been twice to Honeybear Campground in Boone, NC so far. Enjoyable place to spend some time relaxing.

A couple of years ago I forgot to open one of the valves in my WH after de-winterizing, but I was getting lukewarm water out of it. Another Jayco owner camped close to me clued me in. I also learned how to have a very short shower to save water and leave some hot for wife. I was boon docking at the time.
