I accidently did something like this a few years ago. I had a 5 gallon buck that had some over flow of bird food in it. Once the bucket was empty, I just left it on the garage floor. In the spring I had about 6 dead mice in it. I was surprised they could crawl up and in, but were not able to crawl back out. No water or anything was in the bucket.
