Electric blankets

Does anyone use electric blankets? If so is there one brand that's better than the other? How about space heaters do you use the oil filled radiator type or the heating element type?

We use a Delonghi Micathermic heater in the bedroom.
Keeps us warm. No noise, no fan, no flame, light weight, hangs on the wall.

We use a Costco electric blanket and a Delonghi oil filled heater. Other electric heaters are lighter and smaller but the fan is a deal breaker.

Thank you dewey02 and hoppers4 for the responses I'm not familiar with the type that hangs on the wall but I will look it up.

I have the Jayco heated mattress pads plus our sleeping bags and were good for the night. An oil filled heater takes care of the days.

No electric blankets, but we do have electric mattress pads for each bed. Not sure of the brand. Really enjoy them on cool nights.

As for electric heaters, we have an old ceramic 1500 watt heater. It's less than 10" in size in any direction. It has a tip sensor. At night it is on the floor in front of the stove. During the day we put it on the stove. Works great, small and easy to store.

Amazon has them, although they are pricey there. http://www.amazon.com/DeLonghi-HMP15...a+panel+heater
We bought two of them on a closeout sale at a local store for $20 each.
We have been very happy with the heater. Nice and quiet in the bedroom. Two settings 750 watt and 1500 watt. We've never used the high setting. It has an adjustable thermostat. It takes quite a while to get up to temperature, but it holds the temp well once it gets there. We have it hanging on the wall in the bedroom where the TV would go and in fact, it kinda looks like a turned off TV. It is about 2 1/2 feet wide by 2 feet tall. It is only about 2 inches thick and it only gets hot on one side. Our wall (which is cheap RV paneling) does not get hot.

Here is a photo from google of it hanging on someone's wall.

Years ago I switched from an electric blanket to a pad. Blankets needed to be added/removed seasonally and I found they often didn't survive storage (I don't know why). Pads can be left on year round.

I've also used both the oil filled and element type portable heaters. Oil filled take awhile to both heat up and cool down but I feel are safer around small children and pets. Without kids I prefer the quickness of the forced fan element type heaters.

No need to overthink this, they all work so get what strikes your fancy.

I also use an electric mattress pad. Remember; heat rises. An electric blanket will send a lot more air up into the room than it will down onto your body. With a heated mattress pad, the heated air moves up into your body, and your regular blanket holds the heat in. It's so efficient that I only use mine on the lowest setting. Mine is made by "Sunbeam", and I think I paid about $60 at Walmart for the queen size. I have a 3" memory-foam mattress topper under my Denver Mattress (like a box spring). The sides of the mattress pad are tall enough to wrap around both the mattress and topper, and tuck in on top of the plywood bed support.

As for the heater, I use a portable electric fireplace in the living room. But I turn it off when outside temps get near freezing. Found out the hard way that if your furnace isn't running, your underbelly won't be heated, and your water lines will freeze! I turn off the heater at night, set the furnace thermostat at around 65 (the trailer gets down to about 55), and turn on the heated mattress pad. Both the dog and I sleep like babies.

CAUTION!!!!!

If you use aux heating of any type make sure your furnace will still come on. The furnace also heats the underbody, where your plumbing and tanks are located. If the furnace does not come on you may end up with water pipe problems.

Having said that, we do use an oil filled heater as a supplement to the furnace but I make sure that the furnace will still operate on a regular basis when the temps are in the hard freeze range.

We use a fan forced Lasco heater from Walmart. When the temps drop here in Jan we use the electric blanket.
