New proposed regulation

I just happened to come across this the other day. Really interesting but I can't see it ever happening. But in today's world, never say never.

Follow the money - this undoubtedly financially benefits RV manufacturers in some way (don't know exactly how) and they put a bunch of lobbyists to work on it.
Remember - they are from the Government and they are here to help us.

Makes me wonder if it has something to do with warranty. I've had a couple little birds tell me some are trying to deny warranty if your a full timer. Saying it is not the intended use and the unit is livable so whats the problem. Guess your only suppose to use a rv maybe two weekends a year in their eyes.

Simple fix. If someone asks, you're always just on vacation...

I wonder if they wil be trying to reach-back to take away the IRS interest write-off for "second home" on RV's because of this....

I think it allows RV manufacturers to build the units with less oversight and thus, at less cost, since the RV's don't have to meet "permanent" home build standards. I didn't see anything that would actually affect full time RV'ers, but I may have missed something.

If it makes the manufacturers happy, like Snowbird47 said, they are making more money because of it. There were undoubtedly RV Lobbyists at work on it, somewhere on Capitol Hill.

We've always took the approach oz97tj mentioned. We're always on vacation. We have a residence address, although there is nothing more than a huge shop there with an apartment in it. We never live there though. Carry regular Rv insurance plus renters insurance for everything else. Life is good and hadn't been bothered about it. Doesn't sound like any of it will affect us anyway.

Don't ever tell them you are a full timer.. My owners manual even states "not intended for full time use" don't ask don't tell is the best advice

A "good" dealer will fix regardless. We full time, they know it. I've technically voided every warranty on every rig within the first week from mods to welding on frame. Never once have I been turned down. I get what I need, they make money. Of course I do all my own work now anyway. Either way, the new rules don't bother me a bit.

Sounds like if the rules go through, full timers in park models will be required to pull the tags, and pay property taxes.

I think this has to do with the tend towards "tiny houses". Your seeing more and more communities making laws on zoning of these tiny homes. They don't want someone pulling in your backyard and setting up another house.

This is all about construction code. RV's are not built to standard for a house or other full time residence. Most RV manuals have a statement that says full time living will void your warranty.

So, require the RV industry to allow full time residence and they will have to meet normal housing code construction (like mobile homes). That will raise the cost.

But, the way it is now cities can (and do) restrict where you can stay in your RV. Some places will not even allow you to live in an RV on your own property since it does not meet the building code. I know an area where my kids lived where we could not park our RV on their property and stay in it at all, even for a couple of weeks.

So, there are pluses and minuses to all this.

In the end, your RV is not built for full time and no one (cities, states, neighborhoods, RV park owners, etc) wants you to live in it full time.
