Snobirding in Arizona Where to stay????

We are looking at spending some of our winter down in Arizona. I was hopeing to get some help as to where to stay. We've never camped down there so we have no clue as to good and bad places. Any help would be great thank you in advance. Looking to get out of Wisconsin for January and Feb.

Just about anywhere south of 5000 feet. That would include popular places such as Apache Junction, Tucson, Quartzsite, Yuma, and many many others.
It sort of depends upon how close you want to be to other locations and/or people.
There are many private RV parks to choose from in the aforementioned locations which offer extended stays with full hookups, and then there are state and even different county parks with fewer amenities which some prefer, in many other various locations south of 5000 feet (which is really the southern 2/3rd's of the state).
Making reservations now for your time frame would be highly recommended as many people come back year after year from Oct to May.

Biggest issue would be finding a park that can take you. As said many are full from Oct thru April...I would start calling today and see what you can find. Good Luck.

We have friends who really speak highly of Cocopah RV golf resort in Yuma Az. We have visited and it is a spacious and well cared for park. Cocopah RV and Golf Resort

Casa Grande, Arizona is a nice area. Away from the big cities but close enough to get to easily.

Casa Grande RV Resort is a nice park, all amenities, close to grocery store.

Casa Grande has lots of restaurants and other businesses - Lowe's, Home Depot, WalMart, etc.

We take our trailer to Quartzite in November and keep it there through about April. If you like gem and RV shows and swap meets that's the place to be. We love the open spaces, desert environment and all the people we meet from all over the country. We are lucky to own our own lot in Quartzite but the advice to start looking now wherever you choose is wise. Besides the RV parks there are also privately owned spaces available to rent.

And don't forget- if you have a generator or solar, you can boondock in the LTVA (long term visitor area) directly south of Quartzsite. $180 for the permit, which covers Sept. 15 through April 15. Fresh water, dump station and trash dumpsters are available and included in the fee price. That's the way I snowbird.

The reference is to BLM land areas set aside for recreation. Details about the those two areas in AZ can be found here; Long Term Visitor Areas - BLM Arizona
There are many other BLM campsites and areas throughout AZ, some free and some using an Interagency Pass such as Golden Age can be as little as $7/day.

It may look like a vacant lot in the summer time but just like many areas around AZ looks much different in the winter time.
Many people do come and stay from Oct to May.
I live near a major corridor in north Phoenix and during those two months the number of RVs traveling through can be impressive.

A nice place a little quieter is the Oasis RV Dateland AZ. Great library of DVD's, book exchange, pool with nice owners who manage the park. I used it as a base last year and will be back in Jan 17.

The population of Quartzite goes from about 3,000 off season to about 60,000 during the winter. This includes campers in RV parks and the off road areas. We live in So. Calif. and go back and forth all winter, a couple of weeks at a time, but we know lots of people who come down Oct or Nov and stay until March or April. There are things going on the entire season. Check out Events. This booklet even has links for RV parks and BLM camping.

Driving through Quartzite in winter is eye opening. Never saw so many RV's in one area before.

Phoenix area is huge for snowbirds. Mesa/Apache Junction area is swarmed with snowbirds.

Where you stay depends on how big a city you want to be near.

There is a massive KOA in Tucson. Very nice place but like many KOA's, it's $$$. It's in the city so if you want vistas, solitude and quiet this is probably not a good choice. Like most CG's the visitors are pretty social.

Los Quintas Resort (https://www.lasquintasrvresort.com/) in Yuma. Great park with lots to do and some really great people. Bonus is only 8 miles from Los Algadones Mexico for some cheep beer and some neat wares.
