Snowbird SNAFU
Although this year has been relatively mild, we've had enough of Ohio winter weather, and are making plans to buy a camper in Georgia, store it there until winter, and have it towed to a campground for the winter. We've discovered that we can't register it in Georgia without having a Georgia driver's license, which we neither have. We also can't register it in Ohio, because we have to physically take the camper to the Registrar to have the Vin read, and we don't plan to tow it to Ohio just to so that.
Any suggestions?

Is it new or used? If new Ohio should accept the MCO from the dealer for registration. If used there is no way around it.
Are you storing it at the CG? Many don't register them since they don't leave the CG.

We didn't have to take our trailer in to register it.
Just took the Memorandum Certificate of Title into the DMV and registered it.
Bought the trailer used from a dealer.

Per this link: Ohio BMV
All that's needed:
Motor Home, House Vehicle or Recreational Vehicle
Ohio Certificate of Title or Memorandum of Title
Ohio driver license, state ID or Social Security number
Affidavit for Registration (form BMV 5712) if MH not listed on title

Also if you register it here in Georgia you will have to pay the Ad Valorem Tax the first year.
Are you sure you need a Georgia License and not a government ID, just to make sure you are legal.
From the Ga DMV.org site
Register Off-Road Vehicles & RVs in Georgia | DMV.org
RVs and Motorhomes
To register, title, and tag your RV, camper, or motor home, complete a Motor Vehicle Title/Tag Application (Form MV-1) and apply at your local tag office.
When applying, you will need to present the following documents along with the application:
- The original title, or Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin if the vehicle is new. If you don't have these documents, you will need the registration papers from the previous owner, signed over to you.
- A completed Certificate of Inspection (Form T-22B).
- The inspection can be performed by a law enforcement official or tag agent before you apply.
- The title fee of $18.
- If you apply for your title late (over 30 days from the date of purchase or acquisition), you will need to pay a penalty of $10.
- If you are registering during the registration period for that vehicle, you will need to pay the ad valorem tax due at this time.
- Valid driver's license or picture ID.
- Proof of insurance. Georgia requires minimum-liability insurance on all motor vehicles.
- Proof of residency (e.g., utility bill, lease, etc.).
NOTE: A vehicle emissions test is NOT required for recreational vehicles in the state of Georgia.

I'd call Georgia DMV, and ask what loop holes are there. I cannot believe they do not want your money. I know around here (MN and WI) I have friends that register vehicles in the other state, as long as it remains there the majority of the time, the two states do not seem to mind.

I just checked further. The registration is apparently not the problem, the title is. In order to get an Ohio title, a used vehicle has to be inspected by either the DMV or a registered auto dealer in Ohio. ORC 2921.13.

Does anyone have a rough estimate what it costs to tow a 25-30' camper from northeast Ohio to southern Georgia? I don't have a tow vehicle for it, and I don't expect to have to tow it that often. Thanks.

Go to Uship.com and you can input the zip codes for both places and get a free estimate. If I remember correctly last time I checked the going rate was $2-3 per loaded mile, but if you are not in a hurry someone may be able to do it a lot cheaper.

One solution could be to rent a uHaul truck with a tow hitch, a Pickup or a SUV.
How "used" a trailer are you thinking of as some states (Georgia) don't require a title for vehicles over ten years old, also the Ad Valorem tax is very low.
