Great spots. We stayed at Wax COE a few years ago and loved it. Wonderful sites and well maintained.

Those are all lakes haha... We would have to sneak in a couple way back in the woods places...

The South West part of Virginia here is loaded down as well with Camping around Lakes... Nothing wrong with the Lakes Settings for sure...

There is a reason these are all lakes. COE is the managing federal agency for the reservoirs that are created behind most hydro electric dams. We have several in Ky and Tn thanks to the TVA effort back in the 40"s. We live 2 miles from Dale Hollow Lake [Ky/Tn] which has several COE campgrounds. Our favorite is Lilly Dale that is about 3 miles across the lake from where our boats are moored but over 60 miles by road. In addition to the beauty of these COE projects, they are 1/2 price for seniors with a Senior Pass. Think it was $14 last year for full hook ups. Ky has many CG's in the multiple National Forest properties we have. Some have said that the whole state s/b a National Park. Oops we aren't supposed to tell others or we will never be able to get a site.

Well put Bassdogs! We do the majority of our camping at COE mainly because of the sweet discount for seasoned citizens. The other reason (and equally important) is that these cg's offer prime real estate with a view. If you like the woodsy setting, most of the COE cg's we visit offer these settings as well, we prefer a water view. Most of the prime (to us) sites go quickly and require some planning ahead but generally these cg's have space available on most weekends..

I'm originally from Kentucky (although I haven't lived there since the early 80s). I'm planning to take my husband and daughter up there to visit family in the fall. My extended family live in the Georgetown/Lexington area. Do you have any campgrounds you'd recommend near there?

Thanks!

Don't camp much in that area, but a lot of folks like the Horse Park.
