Best Tip EVER: Walk DOWN the steps

If you are visiting the Finger Lakes region in New York, and plan to hike the Gorge in Watkins Glen State Park, start from the top of the Gorge and walk DOWN the 800 steps, instead of starting at the bottom and walking UP the 800 steps (like we did)!

The park provides transportation to take you back to the top. More Details On Our Finger Lake Region Series: The GORGE-OUS Gorge & Watkins Glen State Park, NY – CU On The Road

Glad to here you had a good time. When I read the headline, I thought it said "Best trip ever: Walk down the stairs" and you might have gotten hurt.

Went there last Fall and walked both up and down (or should I say down and up?). It was a memorable trip.

Ha! You're right! It does sound like I feel down the steps. Nope, nothing so dramatic (and clumsy).

It was beautiful, for sure. We started from the bottom and walked up. By the time we walked Jacob's Ladder (the last flight of steps) I thought I was going to die! My husband wanted walk back down, but me and the kids we done. Like, "Stick a Fork in us... we're done!"

Did you guys find the camping loop with the brand new bathrooms? We just happened to drive around one of the other loops and found it.

Just to add to that, its 3$ per person for the bus ride back. Or least it was a couple years back when we did it.

That's a beautiful area! I have been to Penn Yan a few times for work (Coach and Equipment Busses are built in Penn Yan, One of the best busses in the business IMO). Don't forget to stop at Finger Lakes Gaming, if your into slot machines and horse races.

Good advice. I have walked the Gorge at Watkin's Glen several times over the years. When you are young and fit, going up is not so bad. Now it is quite the hike. Walking down is so much easier.
