Big Sur – Hwy 1 closures / alternative for Memorial Day weekend

Hello,

I have a reservation for the extended Memorial Day weekend in Plaskett Creek Campground. Unfortunately, it appears that highway 1 won’t be opened until mid of June due to catastrophic slides. They just extended the closure to mid-June, a few days ago they were planning to open the road early May.

There is an alternative route - Nacimiento Fergusson Road via G14 from Hwy 101 through Lockwood – but this seems to be mountain road, where I would not go with the trailer.

Of course all other campground I would like to visit are fully booked. What are the chances that there will be last minute cancelations for an extended weekend? I was waiting for this weekend to have quality time with family and now this news about the road…

Thanks!

Sorry to hear about the road...I hope you found alternative and spend the weekend relaxing with your family.
I would like to hear about your favorite spots around the bay area or on the coast...we want to go spend the weekend by the ocean but seems everything is booked well in the fall...

If you do not book the site seven months ahead, you are not camping (with the trailer). I did not get any other site, so memorial day weekend was lost. Can't complain, we I am making a lot of reservations. This past weekend Sunset SB, next weekend we are going to Fallen Leaf Lake for 1.5 weeks. Life is good!
