Campground and attractions recommendation Wichita Falls Texas
This spring we are planning our first real multi-state trip in our new RV. Our plan is to leave Indianapolis for Oklahoma City to visit my grandparents and family.
While down that way my wife would like to head to the Dallas/Ft Worth area and see/tour South-fork Ranch since it is only about 4 hrs away from OKC. We have decided it might be cool to make that leg a two day trip leaving the Dallas area heading to Wichita Falls for the night, then heading up to Amarillo to check out Cadillac Ranch (The row of Caddies.....not the.....well, you know) and then back to OKC for a few more days. We have two kids, ages 12 and 6. We were planning to visit Wichita Falls, but would love other historical attraction suggestions along with good campground/RV park recommendations/suggestions would be great!

I would recommend visiting the New Cowboy stadium. Regardless of your NFL affiliation, the stadium is awesome. The memory will be forever embedded in the minds of your children.

I'm a NY football giants fan and I would have to agree the Cowboys stadium seems pretty amazing

We stayed at Coyote Ranch 1 night returning from S. TX October 2013. Experience was ok and facilities seem very nice. Dropping temps (upper 30s) and a lot of rain kept us from doing much investigating. Concrete slabs for the rig. We would stay there again.
http://www.pecangrovervresort.com/ in Chickasha, OK..we would return there also.
http://www.fws.gov/refuge/wichita_mountains/ Wichita Mountains would be an interesting side trip fairly close to OKC.

I usually go to the first Cowboy Bar I find on East Scott Street and drink my way all the way to Sheppard AFB access road. Sure is a bunch of COWBOY and BIKER bars in Wichita Falls. Guess that is why it is also called Wiskey Tall Falls hehe...
Used to be great fishing there with three or four close by Lakes but they have all but dried up now due to the several years of drought in the area...
McBrides Steakhouse is a must do thing... Best ever...

Leading you a bit far afield, but Oak Creek in Weatherford is nice. It's on I20 west of Ft Worth. Weatherford is a county seat and has re-invented itself after being bypassed by the interstate highway (watch the "Cars" movie). Nice place to spend the day. If you want to see the "Hill Country" of Texas there are MANY CG's to choose from. We've stayed at "Top of the hill" on I 10 west of Boerne. Beautiful view and is near several of the central Tx wineries.
Safe travels!

Just learned of Polo Duro Canyon, can't believe I have never heard of it considering I lived in Houston for 7 years lol. After some research, I think we might skip past Wichita Falls and just go straight to Polo Duro instead. I found a rv campground called West Rim RV Park, there is a ranch across the road and have tours down into the canyon along with chuck wagon breakfast and dinners, which I think the kids will get a kick out of.

Oasis RV Park is about 1 mile from the Cadillac Ranch. It's is a good place to stay and a bargain if you have a Good Sam discount. Bring plenty of spray paint and your camera, but try not to visit on a windy day
