Camping and Things To Do Near Acadia ME

Hi All,

We are contemplating heading to Maine in a few weeks, specifically the Acadia area. We were thinking of staying at a campground called Smuggler's Den, that was recommended. We were wondering if anyone has stayed in that area and what there was to do. We do like to hike and have read about some good hiking in the National Park. Would five or six days be enough or too short?

Any suggestions/thoughts would be welcome.

Thanks.

Haven't camped there yet, but sailed in the area for several years and loved it. There is a ton of hiking in the area, we took a tour around Cadillac Mountain and some of the surrounding area out of Bar Harbor, the Asticou Gardens at Northeast Harbor are beautiful. IMO 5/6 days in the area is plenty.

5-6 days are plenty. Lots of hiking and tours in the Nat. Park. Driving, biking and horse carriages. Cadillac mountain and Bar Harbor. We took a whale watching trip from there.
Stayed at KOA.

Look up Thurston's Lobster Pound for an authentic Sea Coast lobster meal. It's located in a harbor full of lobster boats. Been a few years since I was there. Just ask the locals can give you directions.

Went to Bar Harbor last year. Great place wife and kids loved it. Kids are 13 and 15. Really good hiking. Try the Thirsty Whale in town food is pretty good. Their is a campsite that is the closest to Bar Harbor that does not take reservations its first come first serve. I can not think of the name off hand but it is worth the try. Wife was worried about no reservation but I called the night before just to make sure they had spots. We had an ok site the first night then grabbed a great site over looking the water for the rest of the week. I brought my grey water tank just in case I didn't get the full hook up.
