Camping in Louisiana

Hello
My wife and I are planning on spending a month in Louisiana next February. We have a Jayco Greyhawk 29MV motorhome. We are looking for a park or parks to stay in for a week or two at a time. We want to visit the Cajun Country area and prefer state parks but also would like to be near towns or places to site see. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I highly recommend the Paragon RV Park at the Paragon Casino Resort in Marksville, La, which is approximately 30 miles south of Alexandria, La in the central park of the state. Visit the local tourism commission website (www.travelavoyelles.com) to get list of local attractions. Another park I highly recommend (stayed there this past weekend) is the Cajun Palms RV Park in Henderson, La, located 1/4 mile north of I-10 at exit 115 which is approximately 12 miles east of Lafayette La. This park is further south that the Paragon RV Park and this one is in the heart of Cajun country. Their website is www.CajunPalms.com. A lot to see and many many excellent places to eat in this area!!! You may want to visit Avery Island south of Lafayette which is the home of the famous "Tabasco Hot Sauce" manufacturing facility and beautiful Jungle Gardens. Their website is www.tabasco.com. I stayed at the Diamond

Sorry I didn't finish my previous reply. I have stayed at the Diamond Jacks Casino RV park in Bossier City, La off of I-20 and would not recommend it. It's very small and located next to a very busy and noisy railroad. Also had transits walking through begging for stuff - we didn't feel safe at that park.

Check out Cajun RVera in New Iberia, LA. DW and I spent several days there last year. Very nice park.

A MUST DO is Cajun Food Tours in Lafayette, LA. It is ranked No.1 (score of 5.0 with over 500 votes!) on TripAdvisor among 3 attractions in Lafayette. DW and I plan to do this Cajun Food Tour every chance we get. We had a terrific time and terrific food.

Our 3 favorite parks in Louisiana are Poverty Point State Park in Delhi Louisiana. Poverty Point is a very nice park with some shaded, mostly level, paved site but most people like to fish there. You will be only a few miles from the World Hertiage site. If you like history about early indian life. If you do come here be sure to watch the movie I am in the "Wounded Warrior" shirt in front of the tram. You are 35 miles from Vicksburg Battle Ground National Parks. This is a great civil war park. Next is Lake Bruin State Park which is located at St. Joesph, Louisiana. It is very shady, quite, paved roads mostly level sites with good fishing aqnd lots of Cyress trees and Southern moss. If you go here eat at "Fish Tales". They Have a New Orleans Chef and the food is ....New Orleans. You will be 40 miles or so from Natchez, MS. There are a lot of antebellum homes you can tour. If you go here be sure to eat "Under the Hill" on the river. You may see the river boats and steam cruise ship. Lastly we enjoy Grand Isle state Park because it is on the gulf. They have 2 long piers to walk on. Local food is great.

I would look at "Poches RV Park and Fish Camp. Located in Breaux Bridge, wife and I toured it this past May. Looked very nice to us. We have been staying at Pioneer RV Park in Breaux Bridge but, sadly, it may close soon. We are keeping our fingers crossed that things may allow it to remain open with current personel, they are great people.

Fontainebleu State Park on the North shore of Lake Pontchartrain. Beautiful place with the cypress trees and hanging moss. A pier out into the lake and sand beach. It can get pretty muddy since it's basically a swamp. Pretty quiet during the week but fills up on the weekends, so make reservations.
