Campobello Island, New Brunswick, Canada
For those of you on the East coast or those of you who like the travel, this is a beautiful little hidden gem that you should check out. We have gone there at least once or twice a season since we started camping. It's a small island nestled between New Brunswick and Maine on the Bay of Fundy that was the childhood summer home of Franklin D. Roosevelt. There is a park that includes the whole lower end of the island dedicated to him, including the "cottage" he spent the summers in.
The campground there is Herring Cove Provincial Park and has some two way hook-ups and less if you like to rough it. Some treed lots and some open field.
The staff there is always friendly and willing to help out with whatever they can.
Access to the island can be had through the town of Lubec, Maine, via a bridge, or by toll ferry from Deer Island, NB. There is also a ferry to get to Deer Island from the mainland of NB, but it's toll free. The ferry to Campobello stops running by 6 or 6:30 PM nightly. Lubec, Maine is a scenic little fishing town that feels like a step back in time about 40 years. One trip down Main steet will convince you of that. It also has the most Easterly point in the Continental, US, for those that wish to visit the lighthouse on that point.
We've met many new people there from as far away as Tuscon, AZ, and always enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Just thought I'd share one of the beautiful spots for camping we had found.
