Cosmic Campground

For those of you that are into astronomy, there is a place in western NM called the Cosmic Campground. It is a place that has been officially recognized as only two places on the planet (the other is in South America somewhere) that are best for viewing the Milky Way in all of it's glory. (It is said that it is so dark that the Milky Way itself can throw a shadow on the ground.) The Cosmic Campground is called a "Dark Sky Sanctuary."

The site is located north of Silver City NM near Alma NM off of NM180 inside the Gila National Forest.
The best part? There is RV parking for overnight camping. There are no hookups of course, you will have to be dry camping, but there is space for you.

Here is the website with all of the information about the Cosmic Campground

Would love to go there. Its great being in the middle of nowhere with no light pollution and lying on a lounger watching the stars. At least as long as you can stand the mosquito bites

Hadn't seen this one before - thanks for posting! We've been wanting to make it over into NM but so far it hasn't worked out yet.
