Has anyone camped at Fort Mountain State Park in GA. What I'm specifically concerned about is pulling our big rig up to the park. Some of the reviews mention that the road up can be tricky. Any comments would be appreciated.

Maybe you can get a feel for it on Google Maps Satelite view, street view?
I looked at some mountain roads in California that way and it helps a lot. You can actually take the camera down the road by clicking your cursor in the direction you want to move, then an arrow will appear.

Just a thought.

Safe travels,
Doug

We have not pulled a camper up there but stayed at a rental home near there and would not want to attempt to take a camper up those roads! Scary steep and twisty!

Lots of those short turn radius twisting mountain roads can play havoc with the bed of a truck when pulling a fifth wheel.

I would call the cg and ask specifically about it.

You gotta love the high country of GA for camp sites - some of the best ones around... One of my favorites is CLOUDLAND CANYON up on the Lookout Mtn just off I59 at Trenton GA. It too has a couple of winding roads going up on top. 30 miles down the road in ALA is DESOTO State park up on the same Lookout Mtn. It too is a great camp ground with lots of views of canyons... Those places and the big trailers like you have just don't mix good I guess...

I too use GOOGLE MAPS to check out the camp sites - You get a great birdeyes view of the camp grounds and the roads leading to them...

Most of all the high country Natl parks and Natl Forest roads around here in VA seem to have posted signs about restricting RV trailers at 24-foot long. Too many winding curves along the forest service roads for the big long trailers.

One of my favorite locations here is on the VA/WVA mountain ridge state line in the George Washington Natl Forest near a place called FLAGPOLE KNOB. I actually have to pull my off-road popup across a small mountain rock bed stream to get to the spot which is just off a forest service road. Great views, small mountain stream close by, and lots of peace and quiet everywhere. Don't get no better than this...

Took a 35 foot Class A up there a couple of summers ago, if you come in from the Chatsworth side you will be fine, the road winds but is driveable. The campground entrance and to the sites are steep but passable. It is a nice place, quiet, plenty of nature in the place. You'll enjoy it.
