As to pad size and amenities(water elec sewer cable) they are basically the same and both have concrete pads as well as coquina (sand) pads. However since100-300 are the original sites they are much closer together than 1600-1900 so backing in can be more of a challenge. The full hook-up sites are closer to the pool, movie and Sing-along than 100=300.

Premium sites (400-1400) all have large concrete pads (no coquina) and have been re-worked to accomodate the bigger rigs. 400-500 & 700 are as close to the Marina as 100-300.
Grumpy, forgive my ignorance as I have read this 10 times. Are you saying that the entire campground [all the sites] are full hook-up? We'd love to go there some time.

Except 1500 and 2000 those are listed as "Tent pop-up" (water electric cable)if you are looking at their Web site. Also there is no dump station so "tent-pop-up" means just that.

Staying at the Fort was our highlight of last summer. We stayed in the 400 loop and it was packed full. It tested my backing skills to the max but made it on the first try. The 400 loop was the perfect area close to the marina for our daily boat ride. We did not rent a golf cart but if we had been in any loop farther away a golf cart would have been a must.

What about handicap scooter access to transportation from the Ft? I will be on a small 4 wheel scooter and will need to have access to park transportation. Does anyone know the answer? This will be my first time at the Ft.

All Disney buses are ramp equipped, including the internal FORT buses.

Direct transportation to the Magic Kingdom is by boat and you can ride your scooter right onto the boat. If for some reason they are running a big and small boat (which happens on occasion, but rare) you will have to wait for the big boat. You can also ride the bus to Wilderness Lodge and transfer to the Magic Kingdom bus there, but that would take a lot more time.

Access to all the other Parks from the FORT is by bus which you get at the Outpost which is by check in. You ride the internal bus to that location and then transfer.

We plan on going in 2019. May sound like a bit of advanced planning, but just found out our daughter-in-law is due in August, so our first grandchild will be 4 by then. Now if August would only hurry up and get here!!

Thanks Grumpy. I walk fine, I just can't stand for long periods. I was at WDW this past Christmas and used a scooter for the first time and it worked great. We did not stay at the Ft. however, didn't decide to go until too late, but have reservations for Christmas 2015 already.

Reserve a Golf Cart for at least one day of your stay so you can ride around and see all the decorations at the camp sites. They run about 65 a day, but you need to do it in advance.

I was having a problem standing for long periods, too. I purchased a fold-able golf seat/cane. Used it waiting for the World of Color in Disneyland. Saved the day for me (and DW).

What Grumpy said: Get a golf cart and ride around 'The Fort.' They do run out of carts so don't wait too long to reserve one. A few years ago we rented a golf cart from an off-site vendor for less than Disney charges. You can still do that, but the rules have changed; vendors cannot bring them into The Fort. They have the process all set up and you can ask them for the details if you go that route.

My son in law has already done that for the week. I will have a scooter also for me since I will rent one off site for the entire week.

When we were leaving the Magic Kingdom this past Christmas heading to the parking lot, both of my grandchildren (7 year old twins) asked me if they could ride with me. After almost 12 hours they were dragging. Their parents and my ex were dragging also, but I was great and my battery was hanging in there also.

Great day.

If you rent a golf cart can you park drive it to the dock and leave it there while you go to the parks?

Yes you can park the golf cart in a parking lot near the dock or at the bus pick up point. Just remember to take the key with you.

Fort Wilderness in Disney World

Have a great trip. We were just there 1/18-1/24. It was our fourth year in a row going to Disney but our first time at Ft Wilderness. We took our own golf cart and really enjoyed ourselves..

We left at 4am on 1/17 from MD and stayed that night at Coastal GA RV Resort. It was a nice place but we got there, hooked up and didn't wander much.

We're going down March 7th-12th. We're Disney veterans but this is our first time at the campgrounds. I have family that work in the parks so lets just say admission is "cheap". Driving straight through, three of us switching about every 4 hours. That's the plan anyway. I'll be taking I95 all the way down. It will be my first time driving down in a rv, any advice?
