Other than some self-inflicted problems (detailed in the General Chat forum) this was an excellent outing. We are only 270 mi away and spent Thu-Sun at Midway Pines RV. It's a fairly nice park just a few miles from Granbury but needs a little TLC.
The wine walk admission is $20/$25 depending on when you get your ticket. They give you an etched glass to carry around and 15 "tasting tickets". The event draws some of the local Texas wineries who bring their goodies and offer "tastings". There are also food and merchandise vendors with their tents as well as the local stores and restaurants. The wine tastings are included in the admission and individual glasses of wine are available for $5 and bottles can be purchased and picked up at a central location as you leave, very convenient.
There was a high $ event on Thu evening that we did not attend. The general event runs 11:00-8:00 Fri and Sat. We got there early and found a nice parking spot at the county courthouse. By 2:00 there were few convenient spots left and it was getting pretty crowded. We stayed till about 5:00 and had a great time. Being the 5th annual they've had time to get things running pretty smooth. The vendor and winery tents are grouped into one of 5 areas which keeps the people more spread out and gets you to see more of the city which is very pretty. We drove through town Sat afternoon and the little city was packed.
Granbury is the county seat for Hood County and is one of those small towns that was bypassed by the Interstate Highway system (watch the Disney movie "Cars") and many are pretty sad places to drive through. Some have re-invented themselves like Granbury and prosper. There are some beautiful old houses that are well taken care of and many B&B's in the area. It has a population of about 8300 and is becoming a growing area for folks wanting to live near but not in Fort Worth.
