Kings Dominion Campground, Doswell, VA

We recently spent a few nights at Kings Dominion Campground, which they have named "Camp Wilderness" (sounds a little like Disney's Fort Wilderness doesn't it?). Basically we stayed there to visit the amusement park for a couple of days, so we were not expecting much.

It turned out to be a clean, well run park despite a few odd hook up arrangements. If you are planning to visit the park "Camp Wilderness" is very convenient as they have a free shuttle service to and from the park. This saves $12 per visit in parking fees.

It is a little noisy due the distant screams from the Dominator (coaster), traffic and occasional train and whistle at the nearby crossing.

Saw a few Jaycos there, two new 26BHs and three Jay Feathers.

Interesting. I couldn't find a website much less online reservations for the campground. The only information I could find was a telephone number and an email address on the accommodations page of King's Dominion's website.

King's Dominion - Accommodations

However, in my research, I learned that King's Dominion is owned by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company- a holding company that not only owns Cedar Point and King's Island in Ohio, but also Knotts Berry Farm in California and a number of other theme and water parks in the U.S. and Canada as well. Take a look at their website and see if your favorite park is a part of their portfolio.

The campground aspect of the park is really downplayed due to the lack of a website. The only contact is the old fashion way, by phone and they were difficult to reach when I called.

They give discounts for buying season passes, Good Sam and other groups and with the discount, it was around $34.00 per night with water and electric. They also have full hook-ups. There are a few pictures of my Jayco there in my Album on this site.

Thanks for sharing the info about Kings dominion wilderness! We camped there and had a great time. I was concerned after reading many negative reviews about the campground. But is was a great way to spend a couple of days at the amusement park as we could shuttle between the campground and park several times during the day. And we would go there again.
