KOA St Louis and Chicago

Today is a loooooooooooooooooong day for me. It's the day before we leave on our first "big" camping trip with our Jayco.

We will be spending 3 nights at the KOA St Louis and then 3 (maybe 4) nights at the KOA Chicago (Union, IL).

When we get back, I'll post a review of both campgrounds.

Have a safe trip. I am curious about the KOA in St. Louis. I have read mixed reviews.

Well this is our 2nd night at the KOA in (West) St Louis and so far we are liking it. We rented a pull thru site with full service and they are pretty nice. We are close to the pool. The campgrounds are pretty quiet. It is about a 30 minute drive to down town St Louis.

So far the only negative I can think of is it's close to a RR track so you do hear the trains during the day.

The only 2 other negatives that I could come up with for the St Louis (Eureka) KOA was (1) they don't mess around with "the pool closes at dusk" - they got us out of there around 8:15 and (2) the "full service" sites don't have fire rings so you have to build a fire in the grill. That part was lame. Other than that, I would go there again.

NW Chicago KOA -
First impression - it's in the middle of freaking no-where! LOL Wholy cow, Union IL wasn't even on my GPS. LOL
This is a small campgrounds. Quiet. There are things for the kids to do - mini golf, playground, volleyball net and a pool.
So far the only negative is they don't want any "carpets" on the ground, only a door mat. So that is minor.

I have heard about the train noise before. we stayed at the Jellystone near there before when we were going to Six Flags. Maybe next time we will try KOA. Thanks for the review!

Follow up on KOA NW Chicago -
Be prepared for a 1.5 hour drive to the water front and a 2+ hour drive back "home" - no matter what time of day it is.
I do like this campgrounds. Quiet, clean and off the beaten path. Two negatives and they are minor but (1) who paints thier concrete gray around the pool? That was freaking HOT when it's 90+ outside and (2) the water is on an old well so it's going to have a bit of a sulfur smell to it. I do like that you have a fire ring at your site instead of the St Louis one where you used your grill as a fire pit.

I would recommend both locations to anyone who is in St Louis or the "Chicago area".
