madison campground,yellowstone park

this grizzly sow and cub were in our campsite last evening. pretty exciting. it was a nice week in the park until last night. snowed a bit but did not stick on the roads. Madison campground closes in one week. traffic was sparse.overnight lows were in the 20s.

Cool pic! Going to Yellowstone is going to be our first long trip in our new motorhome next spring! Really looking forward to it. Any advice for somebody that hasn't been there before?

there will be a lot of snow on the ground yet. when Madison opened last may 02 they said a few feet of snow were on the ground. hence , a lot of trails will be full of snow. the board walks around old faithful should be clear though. it can snow through may and temps can be on the cool side so fill your motorhome with propane before you arrive at the park. our mr buddy heater will not work at that altitude so we have to rely strictly on our furnace. good news is the bison calve in may so that is neat to see. stay warm!!

For sightseeing make sure and go to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and for thermal features the Norris area is spectacular and underrated. If you have the time, The Grand Tetons are a short easy drive south.

It amazed me, and probably everyone who visits Yellowstone, what's going on beneath the surface of our planet. In some places there is so much steam and boiling water coming out it made me feel like it was the Earth's geological safety valve.

We liked it so much, we're going to re-visit Yellowstone even if it means missing somewhere else - unless of course we win the lotto.

Yellow bus rides are also very cool! Take in a Yellowstone lake fishing charter too. Awesome cutthroat to be had.

Thanks for the advice. We're looking forward to seeing Yellowstone. We will definitely take some warm clothing and plan on staying 4 or 5 days to try and see as much as possible. The Grand Tetons are also in the plans as we will be driving back down to Colorado.
