Mustang Island State Park Great Bunch.

We just got back from Mustang Island.
The folks there were very nice.
Answered questions. All friendly types. They give you the gate combo if you need to leave after hours.
A Park Ranger drove through the area several times checking on everything.
He stopped to see why I had my water conected to the space next to mine.
I told him there was a problem with the faucet.
Soon after the maintainence man showed up to replace it.
The staff were all great and we will definetly go back.

How close can you camp to the water and still have water and electric?

All the water/electric sites are outside the dunes. Pull a google map and you can see the camping area. It's more like a parking lot. The sites on the beach have no hook-ups.

I have a State Park pass and love staying at the them. This summer I tried booking at the Gulf Waters RV Resort. They were booked as was Pioneer down the road. I ended up booking at Mustang Island SP but the the Monday before I checked Gulf Waters again and they did have an opening so we went there instead. While out and about one of the days we went to the SP and check out the camp grounds. I've got to say I'm glad I did not stay there. The RV area is basically a big parking lot with zero trees surrounded by sand. The other issue is that we were staying for 3 nights and with a fam of 4 I knew our gray water would be filled up in half that time. The other place was twice the cost but 4x nicer...full connections, trees, great overall landscaping, and still right next to the beach.

So bottom line if going to Port A stay at Gulf Waters or even Pioneer and Mustang Island SP as last resort. Pioneer was ok but the sites were fairly tight.
