Need NY State CG Recommendations

Hello,
We are planning a 2 week trip to NY State mid July.
I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for campground in these areas. These are areas my wife wants to visit and explore. We like site with water and electric if possible. Thanks, Doug

Doug, Alex Bay has a brand new one, called Swan Bay RV resort. May be expensive as it's right on the St. Lawrence River, and has "resort" in the name. The website makes it look really good. We often stay at Wellesley Island State Park (NYSParks.com). In fact, we're leaving for there tomorrow. One FHU loop (FOX loop) but reservations go fast. You do cross the Thousand Island Bridge which has a toll, but only on the way over, not the return trip. Watkins Glen State Park may have RV length restrictions, but it's right in town. Lake George has many. We stayed at Adirondack Camping Village just north of town on route 9 towards Warrensburg. Nice place, a little hilly, but not bad. We'd go back. Check the NYSParks.com web site for state parks, and input your requirements, and hookup preferences. There are many private CG's but aren't familiar with 'em.

Lake George RV Park is a great place especially for the family. LOTS to do on the grounds and lots more in Lake George Village. Lake George Escape is another one in the area. More scaled down but still nice.

I've been camping in Lake George for since 1981 and my wife since 1969. Been to Lake George RV Park and Lake George Escape.

Lake George RV Park is still a family owned and run campground since 1966 with plenty to do and 3 very large pools.

Lake George Escape was great when it was family owned, but once it was sold to Encore, everything went downhill from there. LG Escape is a very large campground, but the facilities were never increased when the number of campsites were dramatically increased. The CG is very crowded and the 2 small pools are always over crowded.

The cost for each is about the same, neither being cheap. I've been spending my money at Lake George RV Park.

For Niagara falls:
Four mile creek or Golden Hill - these are state parks with electricity. Golden hill has some spots with water, but I bet there are all booked by now.

Branches of Niagara on Grand Island. Highly recommend. Full hookups. **Warning - has toll bridges **

Finally, there is a KOA in Medina (Wildwood). Might be a little out of your way.

Not much more I can recommend in that area.

Based on the size of your camper you might be ok at Watkins Glen State park as the sites are kinda on the small side. The campground is at the top of the park so you would have to drive into town, but it's not very far. You can walk down thru the gorge but it is a long walk back- uphill all the way! There is a KOA on rte. 414 not far out of town towards Corning- it is very nice but a little expensive. Also, there is a small campground owned and run by the village of Watkins right across from Clute
Park on the end of Seneca Lake that is small and inexpensive and within walking distance to downtown. It has full hook-up sites too.

Looks like we'll leave July 9th thru August 6th.
Had to rely on KOA reservations to make all dates and route sequence work.

Most looking forward to 1000 Islands, Lake George, Watkins Glen and Letchworth SP.

I don' t think you can go wrong using KOA. We've always planned our trips that way. Not always the cheapest, but at least you know what kind of site you will have.
