Northwest NJ to Myrtle Beach, SC - halfway point?

Headed to Myrtle Beach with the kids in early April. Need to find a "halfway" point to make camp for the night on the way. Looking for some recommendations on good places to camp for the night. Does not need to be elaborate as it will really just be an overnight, but want something safe, cheap, easy. I'd like to get past DC, maybe all the way to Richmond. Or what about Stauton, VA??? Any ideas appreciated.

I can't remember the name but there is one in virginia, its not that bad of a ride. I do it every year, its about 12 hrs. I usually try to stop at a truck stop. Don't have to worry about much there. What campground are you going to. We always do pirate land, its a blast

Thanks. Yes, we are going to Pirate land. It will be our first time and we're looking forward to it. A truck stop is a good idea too.

Walnut Hills Campground about 5 miles South of Staunton, Va. is a nice place to stop for overnight. Not far off the interstate just off Route 11. Think it's exit 213.

About another25 miles South is Lee-Hi Truck Stop and they have a campground also.
Closer to the interstate than Walnut Hills.
May be cheaper rates. Campground | LEE HI

Pirate Land is one of my favorite places to stay when we do a "staycation". Kids love the new splash pool and the fishing during the summer. Check out the Tabor City Jelly Stone also (another one of our local favs). Enjoy!

We went to Pirate Land a couple of years ago. Stayed at Fredericksburg KOA as our halfway stopover. Very quiet, easy pull thrus. We're just a few miles south of you in GG.

Just a heads up gas was cheaper in VA and SC then in NC. I just did the drive down to FL we just looked on i95 campground exits on google and went from there. In Va we stopped and didn't really look at prices and paid $60 for the night. But the other stops we looked it up and paid $30 in FL, $25 in NC. Passing by some Pilots and Walmarts they were packed with campers which is another option but I can't convince the wife to do it.

Pic from Walnut Hills/Staunton KOA. Camper next to mine is in the shot, But this was the most beautiful rainbow I've ever seen. I thought I could reach out and touch it.
