There are lots of options. I like Stockade South Lake. It's a little more remote. It is also I'm my opinion closer to most attractions, and you can easily drive the wild life loop in the evenings.

Just booked stockade North campground for 4 nights for next summer. I checked out south but sites maybe too small I might have a 5er by then hopefully.
Thanks

I can't give an opinion on any others but they all look good as we drove by them, we stayed at Blue Bell and it was very nice. The best hosts we have ever met in a campground were there.

Stayed at the Roost CG just outside of the west entrance to Custer St Pk. $32/night last year & had the greatest view from the door. A little tight getting in & out but worth it IMO

Legion Lake Campground

Stayed at Legion Lake Campground a couple weeks ago. Nice small campground with large sites. Easy to get in and out for our 36' 5er.

Big Red, a large bull bison, wandered the area including grazing right beside our picnic table during the night. He was hanging around grazing by the main road as I cautiously broke camp on departure day.

Stayed there 3 years ago and I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. It's a great place.

We stayed at Big Pine CG just outside of Custer as we didn’t book inside the park in time. Highly recommend! Clean bathrooms and close to all attractions. Enjoy your trip, we will be going back!

I also recommend spending a few days in the northern Black Hills near Spearfish.

Another vote for Big Pine, we stayed 10 nights this Sept and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very clean and well kept. Very nice laundry.

We stayed at Game Lodge campground this fall for 3 days. We liked it. Nice bathrooms and showers. Laundry room was iffy.

We stayed 5 nites at game lodge in Sept. 10 min. to town of Custer. Was during a 2 month trip from Ca. to Virginia and back and both wife and I agree that Custer was top 3 of entire trip. Don't know if you're aware but can go to youtube and view all sites.

84 square miles of Custer State park burned last week.
I guess they saved Game Lodge. I don't know about the camp ground there.
Check it out on the internet

We've stayed a couple times at Stockade Lake north and love the location. We used site 32 and you could fit pretty much anything in that spot. Jump on your bicycle and take the trail into Custer and head up to Crazy Horse on the Michelson.

Have a great trip!
