Route advice NJ to Lake George

Looking to see if anyone has done this trip from NJ or lower states headin to lake George rv park .Good sams trip planner which I'm not to fond of has me take NJ turnpike to Garden state parkway, but the parkway has low bridges and not sure if travel trailers are allowed on there.Google maps has me take turnpike all the up to 80 or 87 I believe then it looks like a straight run after that.looking for any advice if someone has done this trip

Get to 287.. Its a loop road. It is not congested unless someone does something very stupid, its three lanes, does not go near NYC is designed for trucks ( which ironically there are relatively few of) and ends at Exit 15 of 87, Which you want to be on anyway.

The Turnpike ends at 80 and being there near Paterson is never a fun thing.
The GSP allows trailers but yes some do not fit under bridges in the right lane. Middle seems to be OK

GSP tolls you again and again and again. 287 is free

Turnpike North, exit 10 for 287 North. 287 North basically runs into the New York Thruway (87 North) which will take you directly to Lake George. Just skip the Parkway part.

Where in S. Jersey are you coming from?

Stay completely clear of your instructions above!!!! That will route you either close to or through NYC which would be a nightmare with a large travel trailer.

95(NJTPKE) to rt 18N to 287N, 87N to Northway change at Albany, then exit 20.

Bypass Newark/NYC area for the extra miles and piece of mind.

Just me but I'm not a big fan of 18 so I run 195-NJ Turnpike-287-87-exit 20. We've been going to LGRV for 13 years or so.

Have a good trip!

Definitely take NJ Turnpike to exit 10 to get to Rt. 287. I live very close to Rt 18 (off of exit 9 on the NJ Turnpike) and it is currently under construction and could be a mess at times.

I tried to reply to a few questions a post and answer on here but couldnt figure it out.Im in Burlington,NJ right by Exit 5 on the turnpike.I travel up to to exit 10 for 287 for work sometimes and that road sucks in the morning that's for sure.287 adds about a hour to my trip but i also didnt wanna deal with getting close to the city or deal with the parkway and low clearance issues, there is 4 of us going up and myself and brother both have 37' trailers and it sucks to maneuver them in traffic.Thank you everyone for your advice, cant wait to get our first big trip this year started!

I'm heading up to ADK next weekend as well with my 323LKTS. But because I live on Long Island I have to deal with the bridges so leaving on Friday afternoon is out of the question for me. Traffic will be horrendous. I'll be leaving 4am Saturday morning instead. Roads and bridges are wide open at that time.

287 is no good. 87 N there are several full service rest stops along the route at about 30 - 40 mile intervals. These start north of TZB along 87.

Queensbury is the cheapest up there, but you should be disconnected to do it.

If you don't have enough to make to LGRVP then stop south of Albany. North of Albany they are tight and off the regular exits.

Ok thanks,I'm hoping to stop before I get on 287 and at least top off so I can make it thru there without stopping.I've been in a few crappy places where I have had to disconnect trailer in a parking lot to fit in a fuel station .I can only get about 225 miles before I need fuel.

Sloatsburg service area on 87 is right after you get on
There are 8 exits you have to choose from on 87
Three are other expressways
24 where you get off to continue to 87 LG has no services

Fuel is cheaper in NJ, so if you have a place to get it I would. Avg Diesel is $2.45/pg right now. Based on your range I would also consider a stop prior to Albany since it's about 240 miles from exit 10 (287) to LGRVP. Those mountains can burn a little more than normal.

There is a truck stop with a Cat scale at exit 16 on the Northway. It's on the south side of the road so you need to make a left once your exit. Google CAT scales and you will see the truck stop in that region. After that it gets tight maneuvering on the exits.
