RT 64 in NC - is it RV friendly

Hi All,

Anyone ever drive RT 64 in NC from Franklin, NC to the GA state line with an RV? Wondering if I'll be able to tow my 42' Jayco 5th wheel safely on this road. Trying to get from Asheville, NC (Mama Gerties) to Blairsville, GA (Trackrock).

Thanks!

You should have no problems at all. We used to live west Murphy on 64, 3 miles from Tennessee. Did our shopping in Blairsville. 64 is a scenic and easy ride. Just don't take 64/28 from Highland to Franklin.

I have driven that stretch in a car and truck many times. When I go from Waynesville to Blairsville I would not go that route in a long trailer or fifth wheel. We stay on the bigger road and go thru Clayton, Ga.

Warning Will Robinson!

DO NOT TRY IT. I live in Cashiers on Hwy 64. You will pass thru 13 miles of switch backs between Brevard & Cashiers with 4 miles of extreeme road construction and blasting delays. If you make it through that you have to traverse the Cullasaja gorge between Highlands and Franklin. The overhanging rocks have claimed many RVs and tractor trailers. I would recommend 23/74 out of Asheville to Franklin then 441 south to Clayton, GA.

In a 40' rig you will go lots slower and there are some very congested areas along the river where rafting companies are located.

The question was from asked about 64 from Franklin heading west, not from Cashiers. I stand by my answer that they will have no problems on that stretch. I drove that route many times pulling a 38' 5th wheel. The rafting companies are in the gorge along 19 not on 64.

I defer to you. I may have gotten mixed up but I was headed from Sylva to Blairsville.

I liked 19 better than 64. It's a much more scenic ride along the river, and there are lots of places to stop and do a little fly fishing, but it can get really slow when the rafting companies are busy.
