Suggestions for Northern FL destinations

Hi to all my camping friends!
In honor of my son turning 18 in August (during our yearly vacation) we asked him to suggest a camping vacation destination. He said "anywhere in Florida on the ocean." I would like to remain in upper part of state b/c we live in Cincinnati area and don't want a 20 plus hour drive. We'll be pulling our TT. You get the picture. I was thinking Amelia Island or St. Augustine. Anyone have any suggestions? Panhandle is also doable for us, just not southern FL. I feel so fortunate to be able to accommodate his birthday request.

Thanks!

Kim

Some great RV parks around Pensacola, Dustin area, beautiful beaches and the National Seashore.

I've been doing some research today and Amelia Island doesn't have sites big enough for our 35' TT, but nearby Ft. Clinch does. It has some great reviews and is historical. Someone also mentioned Santa Rosa, in the panhandle.

I personally have not camped in florida, but my brother has been to Destin 3 times and loves it there. He sends me pictures of the beaches and it is pretty. Lots of campgrounds in the area and options on amenities. Good luck on your search

I, a former Travel Agent, think I've found our spot! My son said Florida and I am barely accommodating his request and he did notice that. Lol! I picked Fort Clinch SP in the Fernandina Beach & Amelia Island area. Alot of history and the SP looks beautiful! We chose site by the Amelia River which is surrounded by beautiful trees versus the beach area where it is open & no shade. We'll stay for 6 days and head north to Savannah for 3 nights. I booked the Skidaway Island SP and that also looks beautiful. We have friends that go to Hilton Head yearly, that same week, so we'll be able to catch up with them. They ask every year for us to go, and we have in the past, but I prefer to experience other places during my hubby's limited time off versus the same destination year after year. Maybe when we retire we'll have the luxury! Lol! We'll likely leave a day before the long drive to FL and overnight somewhere along the way, as we usually do and then drive straight through on return.

Safe travels.
I think you'll enjoy those choices.

I also think you'll like the choice of camping off the coast. It can get really windy and that gets old quick.

norty, I wish we were! We decided to scrap our Christmas plans. I was worried about driving the TT south during winter. My hubby, in turn, surprised me with a 11 day cruise instead. He's not going. I'm taking my Mom instead! He gets to stay home with the kids. He's perfectly fine with it. He knows I cherish my time with my 73 yo Mom. I turn 45 on New Years Eve in the caribbean.

Have a great time, We were looking forward to meeting someone on the forum. Oh well, maybe another day!

Have a great cruise with your Mom. My MIL is 84 and my wife spends as much time as she can with her.
