Thousand Islands, Alexandria BAy, Boldt Castle

I am looking for good places to stay in the Thousand Islands, or Alexandria Bay area in Upstate NY, with a special interest in anything near the Boldt Castle attraction. Does anyone have a favorite location where I could park a 26' Class C for a few days? New to this RV'ing thing, so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Kring Point State Park or Keewaydin State Park are the two closest to Alex Bay. Cedar Point State Park is a little farther away, but is very nice

Jacques Cartier state park is a little farther down the river, but very nice, electric hook up only. There's a new private CG in A-Bay, Swan Bay Resort. Haven't stayed there yet but it's very nice looking place.

I suggest Wellesley Island State Park, off I-81, approximately 6 miles from Alex Bay. Many nice large sites. One section with full hook-ups.

Swimming beach, fishing pier, boat dock, gas, grocery store, liquor store, campfire wood/bait/ice etc all within one mile from park entrance. 2 golf courses on island. You can catch the Boldt Castle Shuttle at the Boldt Castle Yacht House which is on the east end of the island. The only negetive is the Thousand Island Bridge toll which is $2.75 to get on the island.

Keywaydin and Grass Points State Parks are closer to Alex Bay on the mainland, but the sites are small and crowded. Keywaydin S.P. does have a very nice swimming pool.

Thousand Islands, Alexandria BAy, Boldt Castle

Very nice area, was just up there about a month ago visiting the castle. Lots of nice NY state parks. I like Cedar point state park. The St Lawrence seaway lock system is also a nice stop to watch the ships raise and lower as they progress the system.

I stayed there two years ago and have to agree, it was very nice. The only problem I had in that area was that AT&T tried to charge me out of country rates because my phone kept going through the cell towers in Canada even though I was in the USA.

We camp at Cedar Pt, and Wellesley Island (Fox loop) for the full hook ups, but the reservations go very fast. They're the only two state parks with full hook ups in that area. Like Meeker said, the T.I.Bridge toll grabs you every time you go onto the island, but it's only going on, the trip back is free. Haven't stayed at any private parks up there, but as previously posted, Swan Bay Resort is brand new, and looks nice, but check pricing. You know what the term "Resort" does to prices. Check out New York State Parks Recreation & Historic Preservation for the state run parks in that area.

Swan Bay resort is VERY nice! It is a little on the costly side during season but everything is new and you can get a nice view of the river and passing ships. The folks running the place are very nice and helpful and there is a Price Chopper grocery store right next door. The wi-fi is also excellent if you need that.

I camp at Grass Point State Park every year for two weeks. There are several non-electric sites near the water that have plenty of room and you can watch the ships go by right outside your door! We also take our boat with us--you can rent a small boat right at the campground if you're feeling adventurous.

Grass Point has a nice beach and playground for the little ones, also a brand new bath house. Don't forget the village of Clayton while you're there--nice restaurants and a great antique boat museum.

Merry Knoll

I have frequented the Thousand Islands since I was a kid and we camp at Merry Knoll Campground. It is located right on the water and has docks for fishing. It is a nice family run campground with some great views of the river. The downfall is that it is located just west of Clayton and is about a 20 minute ride to Alex Bay. If you are looking for something closer to Alex Bay I would suggest Keewaydin State Park which is probably the closest to the castle. There really are a lot of options for camping in that area though.
