15000 BTU A/C with one 2000 watt generator

Just wanted to stop by and say that I installed an easy start (Not a hard start) in my Jayco 5th Wheel and love it. I can now run my 15000 BTU A/C with a single 2000 watt Honda. This is the best money I have spent on my new 5'er. The part is from Micro-Air.

Why don't manufacturers include something like this when they make the A/C units? Is there any reason not to?

That's good news.

I'm in the process of trying to sell my Honda EU3000is because it won't fit under our TV bed cover with the all-terrain wheel kit on it.

Was planning on replacing it with a single EU2000i and just using it during the cooler months for dry camping, but this may be option to make it usable all year long and actually be able to run our Coleman 13,500 btuh A/C unit.

01tundra, I ran the genny with the A/C and lights on and didn't have any issues. The genny was running a little higher rpm's, but didn't bog down. Good luck to you!

So if I'm just planning on owning one Honda EU2000i generator and planning on installing this A/C kit am I better off buying the standard or paying an extra $100 for the Companion?

I already own both the 15A to 30A dog bone and the 30 amp twist lock to 30 amp RV adapter, so I could use either. Wasn't sure if one adapter had any more losses than the other, that's the only real reason I could see paying more for the Companion.

Lol. I am by no means an expert on this, but I can say that I own both the companion 2000i and regular 2000i Honda and usually parrallel them together. But, for my testing I used just the companion and it worked. I don't think you could use both the microwave and A/C together, but A/C and lights you can. I hope this helped!

OK thanks.

We've owned our TT for right at a year now and have gone on numerous camping trips and the microwave has never been used....same with the stove and convection oven. We always cook outside on our grill.

I recently installed a hard start capacitor and my Champion 2000W generator can now run our 13,500 BTU AC unit. Everything else that runs on AC power needs to be turned off though.

Cheers

you're putting the champion AND the honda together? How?

I would not think that that would work.

I am sorry for the confusion. I have 2 Hondas, 1 companion and one regular.

Use AIRSTREAM in the coupon code and get $40.00 off.
I installed a Micro-Air on my 28BHBE and can run my AC on 1 2000 Yamaha. BUT, I run the 2 in parallel; that way they run quieter when the A/C is running.

Which hard start capacitor

Can you tell me which hard start capacitors you all installed? Mine is not letting me start the AC with a Champion 3100.

Thank you.

that 3100 champion should start a 15k a/c no problem.

Supco SPP6 is the one I installed. And I agree your 3100 generator should start it without the capacitor.
Something else must be drawing AC power as well.

Cheers

Because when most people shop for A/C's and pay for RV's they look for the lowest price they can get. Why would the mfg add these things if the average buyer will go buy a unit that is a couple hundred cheaper.

FWIW, eventually, if all the mfgs 'agree', you may see them included (and a price increase on the units). Our current AC units have larger capacitors than in the past just for this kind of reason.

That's awesome to know!
This is the generator I now own, same size AC unit, may I ask what is a hard start capacitor, & which one did you install? (And approximate cost? If you don't mind.)
Also, Is this something that an average person can install on their own?
Thanks

Search for Supco SPP6 wherever you like to shop. They are pretty cheap too.

SUPCO 120/288 VAC 1 Phase 1/2-10hp Hardstart Relay and Start Capacitor-SPP6 - The Home Depot

And absolutely everything that runs on AC power needs to be off. Turn off your converter and make sure the fridge is on propane.

Cheers
