2000w generator

Looking for my first long boondocking trip im shopping for a good quiet generator and so far I have Honda vs Wen the price seem to differ significantly, so I'm leaning towards Wen, but before I buy it I want to hear if anyone has any reasoning why I should pay almost double for Honda?

I have the Wen 2000 watt.
I have used it several times. Works well for what it is. Slightly louder than the Honda, but very close. I will likely get a second to parallel to run 1 AC. 2 year warranty and the quality seems good.

The question is..... Are you planning on running your A/C? 2000 Watt generator will not run it unless you have a Micro-Air Soft Start installed.

I have a small wall mount dunby 8K btu AC with max 5A current draw, you sure that 2K Gen won't be enough to start it?

Another one to look at is this one.

Smarter Tools Don't work harder. Work smarter.

They are available at Costco I guess but I haven't priced them. They also make the one from Harbor Freight as well from my understanding. They just slap a different sticker on it. With a Generator, the main thing you want to look for is that it is an inverter generator which these are. These say they are Yamaha engines.

As far as running your AC. You might be ok. Yours is pretty small. I have read of some people getting away with running a 15K AC that I have on a 2K generator with a Micro-Air Soft Start. I run my AC on my 3000is Yamaha just fine. The issue isn't the AC running as much as the compressor kicking in that will take a big spike in power. Some AC units have bigger capacitors than others and get past this spike in demand on a compressor start. That is the unknown that you need to get past more so than the BTU rating of the AC.

As sinister mentioned, the AC will draw a lot on start up. My Yamaha 2400 gets by because it has a built in delay for this very reason. On start up the AC draws heavy , once running it's a normal draw, but that start up is the big power draw. It'll trip the reset.Check to see if the generator your considering has a delay for that purpose. Check your draw -vs-what the manufacturer says it'll run.

You should be able to run the 8K wall mount with the 2K generator fine. We have a Champion 2K and do this from time to time at rest areas while traveling. I turn the breaker off for the converter when we do this and avoid using any other appliances at the same time. Also, disable the "econ" mode on the generator to ensure there are no issues when the AC kicks in. In this configuration my Progressive EMS shows a 7amp draw with the AC running.

If you want to run more appliances at the same time then you'll need more generator.

Micro-Air soft start will fix that problem.

The Wen (who is that anyway?) is just another cheap Chinese(or worse) knockoff. Having said that, the choice is yours as to whether the price/quality trade-off is good enough. I do know that if I were you I would buy it someplace with a good return/replacement policy.

You get what you pay for. If I rely on my generator then Honda or Yamaha is the only way I would go.

Honda and Yamaha is way overpriced, you have a couple Champions for that which also has excellent service. Yes Honda and Yamaha make good quality products but for the average RVer to expensive.

The Honda's are obviously the top pick. I would seriously look at Champions 2000 watt if it were me. I have two Champions and there service has been outstanding.

I got Wen 56200i for $450, tested with my AC for 3 hours and it's totally handling it, if it survives winter stand down times, that would be awesome so far loving it, it actually costed just a bit cheaper than half of honda, so for the same money I added some flexible solar setup.
