EU2000I will run my AC, any issues?

I recently purchased a 2011 Jay Feather sport 165. I borrowed a buddies EU2000i companion model to see if it would run my A/C. It has the 26.6A plug on it, and that is what I used to connect my TT to. It ran the AC and refrigerator. My A/C is labeled Coleman Mach, model# 48253A866. My refrigerator is a Norcold model # N512UL. The AC would lag for a few seconds, but ran fine and blew cold air. I have a few questions. Will I damage my A/C or anything else by using this set up? I didn't even thing to try it, but would the 13.3A plug run my set up? I have a 16.5' TT with a smaller v6 truck. Weight and space is a commodity. It would be absolutely perfect to just use the one EU2000i. I have access to a 3000 Honda to try as well but it is very heavy and would rather just haul the one 2000. Any one have any input or experience trying this? I would only be running the A/C a few hours a day and at the very most 10 days a year, more like 2-5.

I think you only have 26.6 amps if you parallel with another eu2000. Otherwise its 13.3 amp.

2000 watts at 120 volts is 16.6 amps. You might get up to 18 or 20 At a surge peake.

The appropriate size is really based on the size of the A/C unit and how many amps it pulls at start up. The initial amperage demand will peak when the compressor first starts.

Most of the treads I Have read here on JOF suggests that the 2000 w generator will be under sized for running a typical AC unit.

The 2000w gen set May in fact start and run the AC unit, but will be under heavy load and not much capacity left for anything else.

Folks have minimize that momentary demand by adding a " hard start capacitor"

I will say possibly, but maybe not always. I think if it is really hot, it may not be able to start. I had a 2000i that would not start my AC. I was looking at getting the companion 2000, but then ran across a better cheaper solution. I bought a champion 2800w(3100w peak) from Costco. It was on sale a in March for $699. It's now $799. It runs my 15k AC and everything else in the trailer. I ran my Honda and the champion at the same time. As far as sound goes, you can't tell the difference. The only difference I don't like is the champion is heavy, but it has wheels, so it's not bad. I sold my Honda a day after I listed it. Really glad I made the purchase. Two guys at my work also have purchased the champion.

Glad to hear that Champion worked out for you. I spent about $1k on my EU2000i Companion and while I love it, I would have gone for the Champion at $300 less and 50% more power.

If you are truly getting 26 amps from one genset then you are okay . Typical AC units need about 17 or so amps to start then settle down to about 13 to keep running. Newer madels maybe a little less. Microwave is also a large startup consumer. I'm not familiar with these types of gensets. If as the other poster says you are only getting 13amps on a single unit, then you're gonna burn something up. Your owners manual should have a breakdown of which appliance draws how much amps. See what you use and add them up. And double check just how many amps one genset provides.

One EU2000 and U're only getting 13.3 amps, which might on a good day run the AC. The 30amp plug will only pull the juice that is being generated. You are risking and I would risk saying "early failure" of your AC buy running it on an underpowered generator. What might work does not mean it is recommended. In this case you need to listen to those of us who have experience.,

Some additional facts you need to be aware of. A Honda EU2000i is rated 2000 watts/16.7 amps for short duration (<30 minutes). Continuous rating is 1600 watts/13.3 amps.

This generator will start many 13,500 BTU air conditions from a cold start. The problem will arise when it is cycling and the pressures have not completely equalized before a re-start is done.

Simple answer is a Honda EU2000i is pushing its limits to run a 13,500 BTU air conditioner. NOT recommended.

IF your batteries are down the converter will be running at full power then the fridge + the A/C unit.. you may find over time you will damage the A/C unit.. from low voltage.

I bought 2 - 2000watt Honda Inverter generators. Work very well & are quiet relative to the Champion I tried. Would not recommend trying to run an air conditioner with one 2000watt generator. Initial compressor start up not good for unit.

A quick question for those who are running the 2 2000 watt genies, what is the run time on fuel when running ac with both genies running?

It depends on the load. The same figures as in the specs would apply.

For my own experience I can tell you I ran my camper with air conditioner in August at a race track (no shade) for 56 hours on 11 gallons of gas. That works out to be 2/10 GPH. Both generators ran 24 hours/day in ECO mode. I do use a 6 gallon extended run fuel tank to feed both generators.

Thanks guys for your replies on this thread! Actually I was also looking for true reviews about honda generator eu2000i and this article provided all the essential details. Now I would definitely buy this generator.

I have a EU3000is and I love mine. The quietest Honda of all, enough grunt, etc. Its heavy though - you'd need to buy a wheel kit and a ramp to get it into a truck unless you have another strong family member to help you 'hoss' it into the back.

If I were going smaller and lighter, Honda would not be my purchase however. It would most assuredly be one of these guys:

https://www.yamahamotorsports.com/po...ter-ef2400ishc

*snip* This model boasts High Current output which is designed specifically to increase motor starting capability and to improve air conditioner starting. This High Current model starts most high efficiency 13,500 btu AC in temperatures up to 110° F. *snip*

I tried real hard a couple of years back to get my EU2000i to run my 13,500BTU air conditioner on the roof of my OFF-ROAD POPUP trailer.

Always tripped the breaker connecting the shore power cable of the trailer directly to the 120V RECEPTACLE on the generator using a RV30-15A adapter.

I even tried to run the air conditioner directly since I could get to the a/c 20AMP power cord plug. Same deal - always tripped the breaker. I did start the fan on the air conditioner first and did get the compressor to run a couple of time doing this. But as soon as the A/C would cycle it would trip the breaker...

NOTE that my 2KW Honda Generator 120VAC receptacles is rated at 13.3AMPS

Just got back from a 3 week road trip. The EU2000i ran my AC with no problem. I have a 8000 btu wall unit with my trailer (184BH). We were able to run lights, water pump , plugs, etc. without issue. When we did use the microwave, we turned off the AC.

I run my 15,000 btu a/c on 2 eu2000i's(one normal one companion) paralleled together.I max the 2 of them out at 26 amps running the a/c,power converter,110v box Fan and the TV. They eat 1 gallon of fuel each every 3.5 hours!!! I have them each hooked to a extended run fuel system, each gen has a 6 gallon boat fuel tank plus 1 gallon in there internal tanks.
