Water and Dump stations for bbq cookers
So I have been reading so much on here to learn as much as I can. Now that DW and I have camped several times (we are total newbies) I have some questions.
We are BBQ competition cookers here in Texas. That's why we bought a TT (264BHW SLX)
When we go to a comp its actually boondocking, no Elec, water or sewer. Usually its a parking lot, coastal field, small park. I use a quiet inverter generator (wish all the others did).
1. After reading all the posts about traveling with full FW tanks I was wondering where do you get water if you travel with an empty FW tanK once you arrive at you destination?
Also I have found it to be challenging finding a place to dump tanks after the comp. First we are not familiar with the area, and googling is usless. Calling the closest CG gets a "I dont know where there is a place to dump" answer.
So usually end up bring it all home. I have a CG close to home that will let be dumo free IF the have a vacant spot, but that is rare as it on the river and a very popular CG.
2. So what is the best way to find a dump station? (typically it going to be sunday)

If you do a google search for dump stations, there are plenty of websites and apps that direct you to nearby dump stations (all across North America). they will even tell you the cost and hours of operation. Failing that I have seen may dump stations at truck stops along the interstate, but not sure how reliable that is in your area.

You can pay to dump at most truck stops. Flying J and Pilot etc.
I thin Flying J charges $10. Save $5 with rewards card.
Also, any camp ground or state park will usually allow you to dump at their dump station for $5-$10

Locating a source of fresh water and a dump site are going to have to become part of your pre-competition planning.
When you sign up, ask the organizer about such things.
SWMBO and I went to a Country Music festival last year. We were in a field with no hookups. The organizers provided several 1,000 gallon water tanks. I used my 6 gallon cans to move the water to my TT. The pump truck that processed the porta-potties sucked our waste tanks for $25 on the last full day.

Allstays has an iPhone app ( and android I think) and one of its features will show dump locations.

I have found the easiest way to find a dump station... Go onto "Google Maps" and center your map on your target location. Then search "RV Dump" in the Map Search field. Then you will get the local places (not all are public) that you can call and see what is open.
If we find that there are few available, then we search on "RV Parks" and call them asking if they have a dump station available. Generally KOA will not let transients dump in their parks, but there are many private places that are very accommodating for as little as $8.

I found a dump station finally near my house. It doesn't show up on any site locators or google maps.
Water however, no one has addressed.
example, this weekend we went to a park in Bandera Tx for a cook off . no water available. I filled tank at home but many say not to travel with full tank so still trying to figure out where one would get water close to camp site .

Our local Cabelas has a dump station, they charge $5, I'm not sure if they all offer this service though.

I have no issue hauling water from home. Would rather do that then take a chance on water from an unknown source in route.

Not sure how Texas state parks are, but here in MN, most state parks have water and a dump station.

I travel with full fresh water tanks fairly often, whenever going to the mountains, I take my own water with me, never know where I can find water. One time, I talked the garden center at Lowe's to let me fill my tanks, but I wouldn't count on it, I think I got lucky that day, the Home Depot a couple blocks away did not let me fill up.
