1/2 ton payload

To all you 1/2 ton TV owners out there, what is your payload rating. We are shopping for a new TV, and all the salesmen want to say is it will tow 8000-12000#. When I ask if they can get me a TV with close to 1800# payload they look at me like I'm crazy ( I've done the research, it can be done).
The local Chevy and GMC dealers acted like they didn't want my business. I guess the search will expand.

2010 Ford F-150 XLT Super Crew 4x4 with Max Tow, 1649 lbs payload. Your are correct that payload capacity is the important number to know rather than towing capacity. Towing capacity is based on an empty truck with only a 150 lbs driver inside.

X2. Tongue weight of trailer (always more than advertised dry hitch weight) figure at least 13% of GTWR) eats up a lot of payload hence you'll be hard pressed to tow up to your actual tow rating when you have passengers in TV.

I usually find the online or print brochures are pretty clear about which combinations of cab/box, drivetrain, suspension etc. have which capacities for both towing and payload. Have been having lots of fun trying to figure out the best setup for my next TV (which is probably still a couple of years away - but I can dream)...

2015 Chevy Silverado LT Z71 Crew Cab: 1743 lb rated payload. With full gas, me, DW, 2 kids, and 940 tongue weight (12%), I am about 40 lb below GVWR of 7200 lb.

When I had my 2004 F150 Crew Cab w/ the 5.4L it had a payload right around 1600#.

Ended up 200# over my GVWR rating pulling a barely 6000# trailer with 650# of tongue weight (plus 3 passengers, a generator, firewood, tool boxes, etc)

Which is why I now own a 2500HD with a 2800# payload

For a 2012 Ford F150 Super Cab with the HeavyDuty & Max Tow packages; Ford spec is 2670 lbs

Actual Cat Scale weighed; with Andersen hitch and just myself; payload was approx 2300 lbs (weight ticket is at home)

Thanks every one. It looks like I can order a configuration to get what I want, but I may be able to deal better for a 3/4 ton on the lot.

I have similar equipment to WyEm. My 2010 F150 XLT 4x4, max tow equipped with the 5.4L engine and the short 5.5ft box has a payload of 1,727 on the door sticker and an actual payload of 1,635 due to some aftermarket options. And that's a 2010. The current F-150s have several hundred pounds more of payload due to their aluminum construction, so you can certainly find a half ton out there with an 1,800 lb. payload if properly equipped. Even back in 2010 Ford was making "max payload" F-150s that could carry several hundred lbs more than my truck (I looked for one but they're rare). Good luck!

Yellow sticker in door jam is the tire rating, the trucks payload may be found in the owners manual or the manufactures web site. To reach this number you may need a higher load rated tire.

My personal opinion is that going to a 3/4 ton truck is the best way to go. With a 1/2 truck you will most likely run out of GVWR before you reach your trucks tow and payload rating.

+1 why push it, there are plenty of good 3/4 tons new and slightly used.

While any of the big three will get it done, don't rule out the gmc/Chevy because the local guy isn't willing to work with you. If you have another one a little further out shop them... Local gmc dealer here is really proud of their trucks lol and want top dollar for them. I don't buy from them for that reason....
