Looking for 4o' 30 amp extension cord in the Chicago area. Will pick up and pay cash for the right price.

40' is a whole lot too much for a normal 30A cord.

The losses and heat will not be acceptable.

Why the long haul for electricity?

Depends on what he plans on running at one time. We survived many a rally with 40-50 ft of cord out.

I have used a 100 ft 10 gauge with RV 30 amp ends with no issues. But I don't plug my Mig welder into the bathroom outlet

I don't know about state parks but here in canada its not uncommon to have posts stated as 30 meters(90 ft) away . I carry a 25ft and 50 ft 30 amp cord just for that purpose and no issues with ac running. I do check for wattage from time to time.

I have had to put together my 25' 30 Amp umbilical and a 25' 30 Amp extension; the combination works pretty well. I also carry a 50' 20 AMP extension for unusual situations (which would obviously limit how much current we could use).

OK, here is why I need 40' of extension. Actually, I have a 50 amp MH. I will use it to operate my refrigerator for a day and a half before I leave on a trip. I can't get my rig close enough to plug in without one. Don't intend to run anything else, except a light or two while loading up.

I carry an 30A SHORE POWER EXTENSION CORD with MALE and FEMALE ends just in case my 25-foot shore power cable is too short. Have had to use it several times.

You can probably go to any of the RV SALES LOTS that have their units only display and talk them out of some their extension cords they use. Or least get a good to buy from them... They have 30A and 50A extension cords running all over the lot...

ADDED NOTE: OOPS I misread what you was wanting to do. This is for when camping at camp grounds where the pedestal ends up too far away. Sorry bout that chief...

If all you are going to do is run the frig and a few lights. Then I would locate a good quality heavy duty extension cord (12 gauge) from your local hardware store. You will need to locate an adaptor to go from 110V household cord to a 50 amp.

For that light a load, a 12ga 50' 15A cord would be adequate. The adapter at the RV end gets weird though: Connect both sides of 1 phase to a single hot lead.

If you really wanted minimal load on the cord:
- Plug the RV in for 10 hours to for the charger to go from bulk to float mode.
- Run the fridge on propane.

You'll only need about 1.5A to 2A @ 120VAC to run the converter for the appliance controllers, the float charger and lights as needed.

All good ideas. A friend of mine just sold his MH and gave me his 100 foot heavy duty extension cord with 30 amp ends. I used it on my last trip out 2 weeks ago. Worked like a charm. You guys know your stuff.

Thanks

Bob
