2016 Seneca 37 TS : preventing scratches while fueling the tank

Hello, I am a newbie here. I have encountered an annoying problem with my newly purchased 2016 Seneca 37 TS. Whenever I fuel this thing, it scratches my fuel tank cover!! (Previous owner failed to mention this) It is really bothering me and I would like to prevent further damage. Has anyone encountered this problem and if you have, do you have a solution? Any suggestions appreciated. Thank you very much.

I had same issue, as well as the stick-on step pads peeling off multiple times. Bed liner was my fix:

I extended the cap chain, so I can now lay the cap on the step while fueling.

Our problem... is finding enough down time to get this done... ours are a ugly mess.

I like the bedliner idea. I was just fueling and thinking I need to do something with that spot. Thanks, once again, Rob

The bedliner material I had applied to my steps and fuel fill areas is guaranteed for life from chips, cracks, peeling, or degradation due to sunlight or fuel spills. I considered that permanent enough for me! And it is more slip-resistant than the cheap treads that were on mine originally and replaced twice.

Other than recoating the non slip surface's, send me a pm I may have a something you can try on preventing scratches while filling. This spring I put fresh non slip adhesive strips on my steps but it only last's a season or less if there is a lot of rain may have to go the permanent coating for next year, gord

I simply drape an old sock over the area before laying the chain over it. I keep the sock in the driver's door bin.

Eureka!! Found a more permanent solution. Just installed these and it works like a charm. Looks great and well-built. Thanks Gord!

Good solution and looks expensive. I use locking caps so I guess you'd have to use red Loctite on the neck extension to provide a locking function there.

It was 279 cad, so it wasn't too bad for a pair of custom machined parts. It came with the locking set screw to hold the extension tight so no need for red loctites in this case. Works great though! I am really happy with them so far.

So what's the latest on the results of the bed liner paint that was used to replace the non- skid stick on pads? I've gotten the replacements, because the passenger side partially let go after it got soaked with diesel fuel, because I forgot to put the cap back on. Yep, it makes a mess.

Yes, I was severely shamed by getting fuel on the non-skid. So, the other day I had a shutoff not work at the truck stop and soaked it again. Glad I didn't get the new non-skids on yes.

Environmentalists just hate me, but I still forage on. Still able to take food and other nourishments and enjoy life on the road. The EPA hasn't caught me yet, but my standard answer will be "guano happens in the real World".

Thinking the "non-skid stick ons" have a short life and looking for another solution. Is the paint on bed liner resistant to diesel fuel? How are the beta test results going?

I have slurped fuel on my bedliner-coated steps several times and it has had no effect whatsover. Still look as nice as the day I reinstalled them. Plus hides all the scratches that had formed around the fill areas. And the non-skid effectiveness is much better than the old pads since the aggregate pieces are larger.

Only downside is you don't want to kneel on them with your bare knee wearing shorts! They hurt!

As a temporary solution, I keep two rags in the same compartment where I keep my gloves for fueling. I lay a rag on the area where the nozzle sits.

I am contemplating getting a set of "Extendafill" which raises the fuel opening up so the nozzle does not sit on the fiberglass. Still looking for more feedback on them before deciding.

I just received my tank extensions Tuesday. Nice products. Quality build. Not too tall or too short. To quote Goldilocks "They're just right"!
Thanks Gord.

Please let me know how your fill ups go and how much additional fuel you think you can add.

Thanks

Will do. Probably won't use it much between now and March. So that info will be a long time coming.
