5er to TT
Brought up this question last year...thought I would try again and see if any new input.
Our first RV was a Gulfstream travel trailer. Upgraded a few years later to our present Jayco 5th wheel. We are in the process of looking for a new RV and I am seriously thinking of going back to a travel trailer.
Wanted to see if anyone here has done that...5er back to a travel trailer?
Reasons why?
Any regrets?
Notice any big difference in towing/backing etc?
Thanks.

I went from a TT, to a 5er, and now back to a TT. Our reason was now that we are empty nesting, no need for anything that big and heavy. We found a floorplan we really like, not as tall, not as heavy. Easier for us. Hope this helps.

My thoughts exactly...get my bed back, not as high, thinking easier maintenance, etc.

Yes. Square footage for the dollar, less overall height. Height doesn't bother some, but I couldn't get ours clean even with an extension pole, thus having to do a good wash on an 8 foot ladder. Both have their pros and cons, we've had a few of each, and in the end after those plus motorhomes, we're back in a travel trailer. They all serve the same purpose, just depends on what you need.

With the accommodations and floor pans available in a TT, only a long time full timer would find them lacking when compared now a days. And if you are trying to be more cost conscious, not having to have a fifth wheel vehicle can save a hunk of change. So can the price on a TT.

After 20 years with 5th wheels I now have a TT. Our considerations: better floor plan (more choices too), more storage (under bed and pickup bed), and weight (again, more choices). Hitches now have the sway control and weight distribution managed so well it's not that much harder to tow.

I had a 5th wheel for 3 years. Money got tight and sold it when I started looking again. I saw my jayflight 33rlds with the same lay out as a lot of the 3slide 5th wheels for a lot less $ so we went with a trailer. I miss the ease of hitching up and unhitching a 5er they are just faster. But I really didn't like giving up my bed. If I want to throw a atv or bikes or kayaks in the pickup I can. but if I came across a good deal on a front living room 5er and I had the money I might move back I love the front living room layouts. But I don't regret buying a tt.

X2 on the speed of hitching the fiver. I don't mind the WD hitch, but it is just a shade more to it. If we go back into full timing again, it'll probably be back to the fifth wheel. Gotta have the storage and just way more closet space. That's one thing we do miss on the trailer. No basement, at least like a fifth wheel has, no huge closets etc. Granted, we went from 40' and 4 slides to our present rig. But, we're not living in this one either, so no need at the time.

Fivers r heavier, taller and bigger and require more truck to pull....more money also...they also have the high steps to enter
All that being said, I cannot imagine going back to a tt. They simply don't tow as nice, back up as nice, or have the roomy feeling (I don't like the short ceiling heights of tt).
If I was older and had issues with the stairs, then maybe I would consider it, but generally speaking, imo, fivers r just nicer to haul and look better inside and out, and they have a lot more storage to boot.
