5th wheel to a TT

I went from a TT to a 5th wheel and seriously thinking of going back to a TT. Main reason is to get the bed of my truck back.
Has anyone here gone from a 5er to a TT?
If so, Why? Was it worth it? Etc. Etc.

I did not go to a 5er for that very reason... I pack too much stuff... also I get better mileage with my TT as it has less wind drag.

I get the same fuel economy towing my 5th wheel as I did with my travel trailer.

When we were ready to upgrade to another RV I was going to get another TT, but ended up with a 5er. Have 2nd guessed that decision ever since I bought it.

I actually think I get better MPG with my 5er than I did with my TT. Was going to look at TT with a better flowing front end.

We went from 26' TT to a 33' TT, then a 30' 5er. After we bought the 5er, we missed the good use of the truck bed.
In the past year, we have acquired a few toy(Canoe, RC trucks & planes, motorcycle, etc..) and are looking into buying a side-by-side sometime this year. So last month, we sold the 5er and bought a TH.
People's lives & likes change and so goes it.

I also definitely get better mileage with the 5er, probably because there is less wind that can push against the inside of the truck tailgate, and a more aerodynamic front cap. Much more stable on the road as well. We liked our 29 foot TT a lot, but after taking a long vacation out in the West, and getting invited into several 5ers, we decided right then and there that our next one would definitely be a 5er. Have not regretted our decision or looked back at all, and would never go back to a TT. JMHO

Each to there own. We like out 5th wheel for alot of reasons. You have to get creative when packing in the truck and the 5th wheel to get the stuff you want in them and we still take it all with us. Good Luck in your choice.

We just traded an '05 NuWa HitchHiker ll LS for a 2013 Jayco White Hawk. Wandering around the GS Rally at Daytona back in November, only to look, absolutely no intention of buying anything. Then we saw and walked through the White Hawk. The floorplan was similar to our HitchHiker (but 2' less interior living area), but still quite functional and with two entry doors on the White Hawk (27DSRL) we can still access the toilet and the kitchen with the slide in while traveling. My wife and I discussed our situation weighing pros and cons. The HitchHiker, while full of amenities the White Hawk didn't have (on board generator, auto. hydraulic leveling and some other "goodies") was getting starting to get a little long in the tooth. Then we thought of the weight, three slides (two hydraulic, one electric), tires that cost nearly $400 apiece...............We also were not using the HitchHiker the way we hoped; taking extended, frequent extended duration trips. The White Hawk, though smaller, still offers us everything we need to be comfortable, with potentially lower ownership costs, and is a good "vacation style" rig. Oh, and it's brand new (wife liked that; we bought the HitchHiker used). I definitely have more tow vehicle than I need to tow the White Hawk (Ram 3500 Diesel), but the truck will be ours soon; it ain't going anywhere. That said, I do find towing the White Hawk considerably less stressful than towing the HitchHiker which was pretty much taking the Ram to its limits.


Long story short: The White Hawk is a better fit for us, but we sure enjoyed our time with the HitchHiker. It was a sweet rig.

Absolutely...we just traded our 34 foot Keystone 5th wheel for a 31 foot Jayco Eagle TT. I got to where I hated RVing. Washing the 5th wheel was like deicing a jet liner. It was all too big.

I am the opposite. I've had many TT's and finally made the move to the 5er this past Summer. I did trade the short bed truck for a LB, but that was for better turning radius. I love the way the 5er travels, and I have to admit I am a faster kind of driver. The TT ALWAYS gave me the "white knuckle" effect and I have never had that with the 5er. With the LB I still have room for stuff under my cover (I have the tri-folding bed cover) and only fold it to the cab and 1/3 of the bed is still covered from rain. We also have the rack on the back of the 5er for adding things if space is needed. With that being said, there is no room in the bed for a quad or anything of that nature. My mileage is the same regardless of what I am towing or just how fast I may be moving. 10-11 mpg.

Agree that washing the 5er requires more effort, but the extra room and the vastly increased stability on the road is well worth the extra cleaning to us. After having our first 5er, would not be interested in going back to any TT.

I agree. I towed a travel trailer for 10 years. It was great. But after towing and camping in a 5th wheel, I doubt I'll own another travel trailer.

And coming back to a travel tailer is different than the good old days. The new tow equipment takes all the sway and white knuckle out of it. Backing for me is easier too. Frankly, I didn't care for a 4 foot flight of steep steps getting in and it made it darn impossible for an elderly dog to come and go without assistance.

I have been spoiled big time having my front deck on my OFF-ROAD POPUP. between this and the truck bed and super cab we can carry some serious supplies with us on our RV trips. The POPUP has every nook and cranny filled up with something. I cannot even stick my hand into the front door after it is ready for travel mode.

This is real fun when you finally get to your site as everything on the floors has to come out and placed on the picnic table before you can even get the top up.

It still gets the best gas mileage of all of them and will go anywhere you want to drive your truck. We still pull trough McDonalds and order big Macs from the drive thru window...

We have considered going to something with more floorspace but still are running the OFF-ROAD POPUP. It has all the modern things the big guys have but not much walking around area. Also very low maintenance overheard...

Would love to get a big 5er, like the Seismic, hovered having 6 kids plus my wife and I, we'd have to pay a fortune for a custom TV.
