a better speed rated tire?

I have a x23b. I am wondering if you can buy a better tire then a st tire. I was wanting a tire that has a better speed rating then 65 mph. Any one put something better on?

Many people have gone to a Michelin LTX2 which is a LT not an ST tire but it is speed rated. There are two versions of the LTX. One is the P (for passenger cars and light trucks such as a 1/2 ton) and the other is load rated for heavier light trucks such as a 3/4 or 1 ton truck (i.e. D or E rated). I have read threads where some ST tire manufacturers such as Goodyear claim that their tires can be run 10 mph faster (i.e. 75 mph) by adding 10 psi to the max. pressure rating for the tire. That being said they also say that this does not change the load capacity of the tire. I run Maxxis E rated tires but very rarely run faster the 60 mph for safety reasons and I get much better gas mileage at slower speeds. Besides, I don't want the tail waging the dog.

What is your load rating and do you have 14s or 15s?

Maxxis ST225/75R15 E Load Rating: 2850 lbs each x 4 = 11,400 lbs.

So at that load rating if you were to have a flat you could still drive( at a lower speed) to a rest area or tire store, correct?
I have traveled on many roads where you can't pull off safely and must continue on and with my luck I need those tires.

No, I would change the tire on the spot otherwise I would bet on two flats. I carry two spare tires one mounted one not. I carry two unmounted spare tires on longer trips. Most states require those towing to carry warning triangles which I also carry. Obviously I would try and get off the road, but if I had to I would block the road to change the spare. I have had to do this many times over the years driving a big truck. I have several jacks, blocks, and jack stands. I can jack up my TT with my long ram jack in about 30 seconds and change the tire in just a few minutes. I also carry a portable air compressor (medium small one on wheels) and can mount a tire onto a rim if needed.

Why would you want to go faster than 65?.. The fuel mileage penalty is substantial, also the stopping distance grows exponentially. Sure when all is going as hoped all is fine but when the manure hits the fan that extra speed could well mean the end to your family...

Just would like to have a little over kill. Trying to get rid of the weak links in my setup. Going to need to put new tires on soon. I did move up to a over kill tow rig too. 3/4 ton duramax to pull only 5000ibs. It has everything to do with safety. Why have a tire that is only rated to 65 when you travel
At 65. Thinking of getting or hoping to get a tire rated a 75 at least and also over kill the load rating on the tire as well. That is some of my reasons.

Go with a Michelin LTX. No worries...

GOOD your like me then.. My D-Max is way over rated for my trailer.. but I still added drilled and slotted rotors with more aggressive brake pads plus other stuff... Tires I watch like a hawk and replace before they get too worn but since I limit my towing speed to 60 I have never worried about the speed rating.

I'm going to give you something to think about here.....
There are 3 parameters that go into tire ratings. These are inflation pressure, weight load and speed. To get the full picture, all 3 must be considered. For your trailer ST tires, if you have them inflated to the full amount recommended, and your speed is no more than the 65 mph limit, your safety margine is then determined by the weight being carried by the tire. If you know your weights from a CAT scale, and the specified load capacity of the tire, then calculate the percentage loading. Less loading will probably give you the safety margine you're looking for. Another angle on this -- the higher speed rating of P-type and LT-type is largely achieved thru a lower weight load rating and/or higher inflation pressure.

Since it is a 13" I would go with the Maxxis 8008

Is there room in the wheelhouse to move up to a 14" wheel/tire?
