A fun what if? Because it isn't our money.

A retired coworker who does some contract jobs is heading to Alaska from Texas this summer. He has a huge diesel pusher, but realizes that most parks in Canada won't accommodate a rig that large. He wants to buy a TT in the 26' range and tow with a 2015 GMC 1500. Plans to sell the TT next winter upon return to TX.
Just him and his wife. Fully accustomed to RV life and has been living full time in the MH off and on for 10 years or more.

Budget around $22,000 US dollars for TT.

He can tell you anything you'd ever want to know about luxury motorcoaches, but is a novice when it comes to towable.

Used is not off the table.

Let's hear your suggestions.
Thanks.

I'm sure you'll receive good advice on this forum, but after viewing all the opinions regarding TV vis a vis TT, my first reaction is to check the TV's tow capacity, but more importantly would be the TV's weight Carrying Capacity and how tongue weight affects that (especially inasmuch as your friend will probably be carrying some weight en route/return Alaska). That seems to be as significant a consideration than (perhaps) the budget. I'm relatively unfamiliar with prices for new medium-length TT's, but since your friend will be selling it after just a little while, I'd certainly look at used rigs first. I look forward to other opinions on this thread.
- Another piece of advice your friend might consider: following trip to AK, SELL IT IN ALASKA! They might get more money for the rig in AK than TX. Just drive back, staying in motels; it would surely be less expensive than bringing an RV back, and could possibly make a profit (?) against the originally paid price on the TT.

Thats' worth considering. I believe it was on this site that someone bought an off road vehicle (new? used? quad?), drove it all over in AK, and sold in AK for more than they paid for it.

You can buy really nice used TT's in that size range for about $12,000 in like new condition.

If I had that kind of money to throw around I would buy the nice used one and then park it on some land when I was through traveling in it, then continue enjoying my Motorhome.

That is done by more people than you think.
