Don-

Pretty cool that you had Carroll Shelby's signature on the glovebox - is there a story behind that?

That is a really sharp Mustang. Those old models bring back a lot of memories. My first two cars were '66 and '71 Mustangs.

I contacted Carroll's charity organization and they requested that I send the glove box door in and he would sign it for me. Yes there was a nice donation that accompanied the door.

Funny thing, security where I used to work gave me the 1st floor corner (no parking) spot and they kept a camera on it all day. They would tell me at the end of the day how many people were standing around it throughout the day. At the end of the day, I would start it up, (open the stubs a little [electric operated]) drive through the garage and trigger some of the other VP's Porsche's, and Vett's alarms. Talk about, not happy campers....

All the neighbors keep asking what the next car will be...

X2 And yes one day I woke up and said " Ya know it's not about me anymore" now I have my grandkids and my "Tunces" and I'm soo much happier.
It was a special build and never been in the rain in the 14 years I owned it.

That's awesome!

My neighbors all miss my car too - hard to believe because I used to come in from the drag strip around midnight on Friday and Saturday nights - and it was not quiet (though I would idle in and try to be as courteous as I could).

So, my first love was a real labor of love - 1972 Camaro - did a ground up rebuild while I was in the Navy. Painted it myself and built the 327 small block. Never got to run it at the track (not one in the area), but I did a good bit of late night trolling at the local spots... sold it when I got out of the Navy for a decent price.

Years later, I bought the last WS6 Trans Am they made - 2002... and proceeded to turn it into a street driven strip brawler. Had a full cage put in it, lots of suspension parts, built a 408 stroker, did all own computer tuning, and stuck a 250hp hit of nitrous on it... Ran a best of 9.43 at 145mph in the quarter on DOT tires and through the mufflers...

Know what you are feeling. 3 years ago I sold my Jeep Pickup that I have had since 1978, 3/4 ton 4x4. was a sad day to see it go.

Mustang65,

That was a beautiful mistress, and it must have been really tough to part with her. But look at it this way: you no longer have Mistress #1 (your Pony), but you still have Mistress #2 (your Eagle)!

A camping trip and an adult beverage will help ease the heartbreak!

The best part for those of us all holding onto our old cars is gas is getting cheaper again. More Burnouts...

Wow Mustang she's beautiful, and kudos to your better half for allowing you to share your affection all these years! Good luck in the mountains, snow flurries and freezing temp weekend before last, shirt sleeves and in the 70's last weekend. Prepare for both!

Don,

Thanks for the extra pics. So sorry you had to let her go. Back in the day, after getting out of the army ( '75 ), a friend & I would hunt for Boss 302s that needed a little TLC. Spiff them up & flip 'em. I sure wish I still had a few of those today.

It's funny to read the post on cars ,family's must admit it's feels better than reading about Jayco issues.ive spent my life fixing things to Have passed on important things. Our daughter was born with cystic fibrosis ,transplant. Lungs 12 years ago ,a real trooper ,medical problems are expensive and never go away. So I say value every minute with family time

It's sad letting go of the things which became more than just a hobby.
I parted with his old girl back in 2004 before moving to Japan. I had blown the stock 305, and replaced it with a 1970, four bolt main 350, ported and polished 202 heads, a Edelbrock high CFM carb built on the Rochester Q-jet platform, matched to an edelbrock torqued manifold, all while maintained the functionality of the air induction hood. Replaced the TH350 trans with a race built TH400 with a 3200 stall converter. Keeping my my original odometer, I put the speedo from a 78 (which read to 130), in the instrument cluster (original spedo only read to 85). The fastest I ever got her going had the needle past the 130 and pointing at the "h" on the "mph" at the bottom.
I wish I had more pictures inside and out of the custom work I did on this ride. Oh well, life moves on.

My dad turned me into a car guy at a VERY young age. I started out like many young boys by handing him tools and holding the light.

Over the years we bought / repaired / restored / sold many vehicles together. From the early days I always wanted a Mustang and more specifically a 65 Mustang. The lines on that car are just absolutely beautiful. sadly I never came across the right deal so it is one of the ones left on my "Bucket List"

My current project is a 54 Ford that my dad bought new. I am in the process of a complete rebuild in my dad's memory - I'm trying to bring the car back to as close to stock as possible. Here are a few quick pics.
