AC performance poll. There are many threads here on JOF concerning AC performance or lack thereof. So I thought a poll was in order to get some numbers. Multiple choice.

We had issues with the units malfunctioning, but now that they have been replaced we're good to go.

We have been camping this weekend in full sun, mid 90'S and the two ac's are working great. We haven't checked to see how cold we can get it, we had to turn the temp up because we were too cold!

Single 13.5k in our 32BHDS works as expected. I believe Jayco installed a Coleman Mach I unit. Any complaints should be directed towards the AC manufacturer.

Generally run with only one AC unit on and I'm comfortable. The only time we needed both units on was when we were in the Phoenix, AZ area and the temps were 112+. They still kept the rig comfortable.

I voted that the 15K AC cools our RV OK; however:
1) If we've just gotten set up and it is hot it will take until sundown to get the inside even moderately cool;
2) If we are in the sun and it is quite hot, the AC will keep the inside tolerable, but not cool
3) It blows a lot of cold air, but sometimes not quite enough.
4) It is too darn loud.

I will vote after our trip to FL at the end of the month. That will put the A/C to the test. I will say that in our previous TT the 15k A/C was not enough, unless we had shade to assist with the unit.

100°Temps outdoors are tolerable.
Anything over that gets kinda sticky inside.
2016 28rls. Slickside. 15,000 btu unit.
Back window facing west at current location.

My only complaint his the noise, but actually you get used to it after a while.

I installed fantastic fans in all my vents (3) and with a little thinking I can keep it livable until temps hit 100F.. get the fans going first thing in the morning sucking in cool air.. keep the blinds closed on the sun side keep the windows open on the shaded side..

LOL you can say that again.

We have 2 units, one in the main area and then one in the bedroom. What we do is run the main unit (which is ducted thru the 5th) at about 80 F during the day when we are NOT there. Then when we return we drop the time to about 76 and turn on the bedroom unit. Eat supper, take shower etc, then when we go to bed turn off the bedroom unit.

We camped at Disney in late April and it was 90 everyday and humid. I could never live in Florida !! The 15K unit in our 33 foot RLDS kept it as cold as you wanted. Had to raise it up a few times or it got to cold. I guess the thermal package helps.

I voted, but the poll needs a bit finer granularity....

1) I'm somewhere between Cools OK and Cools All conditions; "The A/C has preformed adequately under all conditions encountered so far (up to mid-90's)"

2) I haven't got a clue on the size of my A/C unit, but I figured it'd be the smaller one in a 19RD.

3) Where we live is not really relevant (A/C is needed about 20 days/year). Where we usually camp (150 miles north and 1,000' higher), A/C is not usually needed.

Just to get picayune....

I have yet to add anything to my RV to help the AC. The last time we were out, the temp inside was up to 78 and rising with set temp at 74 (Coleman digital thermostat added). Outside temp was bumping 100 and the trailer was in full sun for the middle part of the day (no trees directly overhead, but a few on either side, so later in the day, we would get some shade).

DW and I are seriously considering a second AC unit. Our trailer came equipped with "2nd AC Prep", so it should be an easy job. Perhaps a Christmas present this year... Wish I had it installed when we bought it, but then this is probably the first time we've had it this bad. We typically break from camping this time of year because of the heat.

If its over 95 it can be hard to keep our camper cool. We leave the AC all day and night on the lowest setting. Keep all the shades down. We also will use the bathroom door to go in out of the camper and use the bathroom as a breezeway to keep the cold air inside. That works the best for when people keep coming in and out!

The guys over on the Forest River forum have done a mod on the AC. It is an interesting read and those who have done it claim it has help a lot. The have insulated one of the pipes and the condenser. If your AC can't keep up this is the mod for you. We have the 15 k btu
AC and it cools our trailer fine. On real hot days we will set the AC on low and start it about an hour before needing it and it will not have to be turned up at all.
