ADCO Roof Cover ~~ Do Not Buy One!

Okay, I admit, we went the cheap route and bought an ADCO roof cover. As appealing as is appeared when we bought it, I wish we had bought the full cover.

We bought it for simplicity sake as we have had full covers for previous RVs in the past. ADCO made this the way they did so the straps do not bang the side of the trailer in the wind. However, it would have been better had they put on a few more straps to hold it in place.

From the front, it looks pretty good:

Not quite so good from the back:

And the sides:

Now, keep in mind that my last name is Murphy and, according to my 90 year old mother, direct descendants of the Son-of-a beot-ch that created Murphy's Law, so your results may vary.

BTW, do not attempt to put one on even in the mildest of windy days!

Rant over! Will buy the whole cover next year!

I bought one also. Way too big. Got the 24-31 foot cover for my 26' camper. To reduce the slack on the back I have the entire front cap covered down to the frame and still have half the back covered. By doing that it definitely got rid of alot of the excess that I see in your pictures. I probably could have bought the smaller size and still had plenty length to work with. I can't tell but did you pull the cinch straps in the front to take up the slack?

BTW, I don't expect this cover to last more than 1-2 seasons. The sides and front are a thicker material but they have about a 3-4 foot wide strip of thinner tyvek material down the middle that I don't expect to last with the stress of the weight of snow and ice on it in the winter time. I think the idea is good as it is theoretically alot easier to put on and take off than a full cover but time will tell!

The instructions, in my opinion, suck. All of the straps are cinched including the front.

I agree with you on that!.. They do have an install video that might help (somewhat) if you haven't watched it yet.

Yeah! A $50 big blue tarp would have been easier!

At the end why one would need a cover ? mostly for the piece of mind I guess ? I live in Quebec so its cold and we have snow, in summer it can become crazy hot, and the roof can take that no problem....thousands of roof can !! Sometimes we try to hard . But hey if that can put one to sleep faster at night why not !!! :-)

Ice is the killer in many places between 49N latitude and the Mason-Dixon line. Snow melts in the sunshine of a 30F-35F winter day and refreezes at night. With a cover, the water does NOT get between the A/C and the roof, nor every minor imperfection in the sealant around the pipes or around the edges of the roof...

It's a bit more than piece of mind. A cheep (relatively) cover that takes the beating from winter, protects the parts that will be destroyed by freeze-thaw cycles of the very effective industrial solvent known as "water".

It's going back!

We just purchased a FULL size cover. Not happy with it. First off, the curb side with the flaps (zipper open/close) are not tall enough so the door can not be opened without having to squeeze through the small opening. It rained a lot a few days ago (BRIGHT sunshine since then) and when I unzipped the flaps and tried to push the flap above the opening door about 2 gallons of water came pouring down (just missing me) from somewhere on top. When we received the cover and un rolled it out on the ground, DW noticed it had a small rip in it, so she had to put a patch on it.

Yesterday I got the ladder out and slid my hand between the cover and the roof and it was all wet. With 2 days of Florida sun, that should have been dry. More concerned with getting mold under the cover.

We have decided to remove the cover and will be returning it.

We will take our chances with the HOT TROPICAL SUN and just wash and treat the roof for UV more often

Don

The following will give you the reason why it is so important to cover your RV. Most good covers last 4 to 5 winters while the cheep covers last one or two seasons. Even the cheep ones are better than nothing at all. Does covering a rv help? - Rods RV Needs
