Adding a skylight to the EAGLE
Has anyone attempted this project yet?
OK, after spending the last 3 months in our 2013 EAGLE 284BHS, it is time to be enlightened! It always seems so dark inside the TT, so I am looking at adding a skylight to the center of the TT, next to the ceiling AC unit (street side). It will be like the one that is above the tub, which lets a lot of sunlight into the bathroom... the brightest area in the trailer. This unit will not work in the middle of the TT, as the roof area between the roof and ceiling is thinner than in the living area... RESEARCH.. RESEARCH.......
The issue that I have is the TRUSS ROOF. I know I need to contact Jayco to get the locations of the TRUSS's, so that I do not cut through them, but I am trying to figure out how much space is between the ceiling and the top of the roof, at this point. I could probably pull a ceiling speaker and take a measurement, and see if I can locate a skylight that has a base that will enclose the area between the ceiling and the bottom of the skylight.
It looks like the AC duct will not be and issue, but there will probably be a few wires that will need to be rerouted.
If anyone has installed a skylight in an EAGLE with a TRUSS roof let me know how it went and what skylight you used.
Thanks
Don

If your still under warranty that would be a NO, NO and they probably will not provide the info.

I've never added a skylight, but I have added windows and compartment doors.
It shouldn't be too big of a challenge if nothing is in the way. Just remember to add additional bracing between the ceiling and the roof. And besure to get everything sealed back up.

I haven't done a skylight...., but I would not cut the rubber roofing material flush with the skylight roof frame opening, allow some extra roofing material to "hang" freely into the opening like they do with the A/C installation openings. Trim later if needed.

Take lots of pictures if you do this. I would like to add some light to our 281BHS.
Cheers

You are a lot braver than I am. Thank goodness our 2015 Eagle HT has 3. It does make a huge difference in the kitchen / living area. Very seldom need any lights on during the daytime.

Glad I asked this question... I will look for a 2015 model so I can see how they look and where they installed them, since they added a few extra ones. Some good points, rubber overlap and adding a support..
I will take pictures and video of the project and post them here and my website.
I am getting tired of walking around inside the TT with my night vision goggles on during the day....

Look at your roof on a dewey morning. On my rig , I can see the square where they framed up a opening but did not use it.

My 2015 Jayflight 23MB has the skylight in the location you are wanting to add one.
I wouldnt think it would be much of problem to order one from Jayco.

Another thing to consider, once you decide where is how will you power the fan. It may or may not be prewired for 12 vdc. If there is a source nearby that can be tapped you are good to go!

We have the Eagle 2013 which also is very dark in the kitchen. What we did was add plexiglass to the screen door so that we can leave it open whether it is cold or hot. Got the idea here on the forum.

No need for 12VDC as the skylight just needs sunshine to do its job.
We leave the door open all day, but once the sun is above the TT, it is dark inside. Having the skylight will/should eliminate the need for interior lights being on in the middle of the day, even thought we use LED's. Less power drain while dry camping...

Don, I looked at your unit online and I can see what you mean about the darkness. I feel ours is dark in areas, like the slideout closet and the bedroom can be dark on cloudy days because we have a 2nd a/c unit where the vent would go. I am not sure why the went so dark with all the cabinetry. We just leave the bathroom door open to the bedroom to get some natural light in ours.
Anxious to see the results of your mod.
