Air Compressor

Going to Maine from Florida. Worried that after six weeks we will need air in the tires. Always have trouble finding air at gas stations. Do I bring compressor or chance it.

I carry a Slim brand 12V compressor. Not sure the model number, but it is the largest one you can connect to the auxiliary power outlet. It'll top of the tires really quickly. It is really small and lives in the cargo hold.

I check my tire pressure every day, that I'm hitting the road.

Viair compressor installed in tool box along with small tank. Have a QD in the running board and a 50' hose that'll reach all truck and trailer tires. Very good investment and never have to worry about where we'll air up tires, pool toys,
Blow off dirty kids, etc. Of course also have a huge set of train horns underneath the truck for those big city moments in traffic.

I also carry a small 12V compressor but don't remember what brand it is. For the first two years I owned it all it did was take up basement space, but i've had to use it twice this year already, so well worth the little bit of space it takes up.

If you do go the compressor route, make sure you get one with a high enough pressure rating to top off your TT tires. I think mine is good to 110 PSI

I have Porter Cable Product Details for 165 psi, 4 gal Oil-Free Pancake Compressor with 25' PU hose and fittings - Model # C2004-WK. It works great and airs up my 110 psi trailer tires quickly. It does take up some space, but well worth it for me. I do have a built in Onan so 120v is no problem.

I'm a bit anal I guess, but I travel with a 6 ton floor jack and an air impact wrench as well. I don't want to have to change a tire on the side of the road, but if I do I want it to be as easy as possible.

A small compressor is a good investment to have in your truck or trailer. Mine has come in handy several times.

You are correct, if you go to a service station for air and not a truck stop the pressure is not high enough to fill a large trailer tire. Usually only 50 psi.

I bought a small pancake 110 V compressor from Harbor Freight. So far it has worked well with my whole house inverter as its power source.. Every 12 V one I have ever had was noisy slow and would stop working after just a few uses..

Ed, I just did a tad of research on the Porter Cable unit and found that many of the ratings are less than stellar and thought I would suggest taking a look at this Ridgid unit which airs to 150 psi and comes with a limited 3 year warranty for $129 w/o hose and fittings.

Thank you for your posting regarding a small, portable compressor because this was something I was overlooking, especially since I will have upgraded 17.5 wheels with tire pressures of 125. Sure beats having to rely on truck stops for air when needed.

Don't remember exactly what I paid for it, but I picked up this 12V 100 psi compressor on sale at Harbor Freight. Also needed a 12v extension cord.

12V 100 PSI High Volume Air Compressor

Works great, although it's not real fast, and the built-in gauge seems to be very accurate. One warning: The instructions tell you to start the compressor and then hook up the hose to the tire. They aren't kidding! It *WILL* blow the fuse if you hook it up to the tire and then plug in the power.

I picked up a 6 gal Porter Cable pancake 150 psi reconditioned for $99 from Amazon. Got it about 5 years ago, also use it to blow out water lines when winterizing.

I bring an air compressor in the bed of the truck when traveling. I also bring a floor jack.
