Another Honda vs the AC thread with a question

Trying to keep a long story short: My Honda EU3000is kept showing overload this weekend every time I tried to plug it in with the AC on. (Fridge and water heater on propane) So we ran with the 6500 all weekend. It occurred to me today that the 6500 shows amp draw;
first start of the AC 2350 amps, turn the ac off and back on = as high as 6700 amps which is why the 3000 wouldn't run it. After letting the ac set for 3 minutes the draw was less than in the 2300 range again and the 3000 worked fine.
Would it be worth installing a hard start capacitor or do I just need to be very careful when running the EU3000?

Probably not. The head pressure is just too high to restart after a very brief off time. That is the reason EMS's provide the delay. Not only is it bad on your generator it's not doing your air conditioner any good restarting that quickly.

I don't think there is any reason to NOT install the hard start capacitor is there? It's only about $15 and is real easy to put in. I just ordered one for mine and I was wondering if I should hold off installation for some reason.


Is there some reason the OPs air would short cycle in less than the three minutes it takes for pressure equalization to occur?

Installing a hard start capacitor is always a good idea. I put one on mine. It helps with generator usage. In Gomez's case I don't think it will cure his issue.
