Another Maintenance Item to Think About

While sitting at our free standing dining table yesterday the chair was feeling loose like it was coming apart. We have the kind of chairs with the seat bottom that lifts up for storage of small items. When I checked under the seat bottom I found that there are a number of bolts and screws holding the chair together, a number of these we're loose. After tightening all of them I checked the other 3 chairs and found loose screws on each of them. I mention this because if allowed to become to loose it is possible for damage to occur that could be irreversible and ruin the chair.

Check your chairs

Thanks for the heads up. Had that problem on chairs in our house. Hadn't thought about checking these, but I will now!

Nylocks work nice, they can be found at any hardware store. They are nut with a band of nylon around the top edge. They do a great job locking a nut on and will not loosen up without a wrench.

I think I will try the nylocks. It has been a yearly chore with our table.

You are concerned about the chair having irreversible damage. What about that poor, unfortunate person who is sitting on the chair if it collapses? :-)
