Another newbie winterization problem

Been following the owners manual step by step.

Drained the fresh water.
Bypassed and drained the hot water heater.
closed the drains
inserted a hose into the jug of antifreeze.
turned the water pump on
opened the hot water faucets

.. and no antifreeze. Water and air spit out but no antifreeze. Waited a while and checked but the jug level didn't change.

Tried a shorter hose. No change. Tried pouring the antifreeze straight down the hose and some when in but then it would take no more. Nothing at the taps

My neighbour says he dumps a couple gallons in the fresh water tank and runs the pump til it comes through. Should work but would rather follow the instructions.

What have I missed?

OK did you turn off the valve near the pump coming from the fresh water tank and turn on the valve on the hose going into the jug?

After I posted I found a very useful picture you had posted of the water pump with a valve and a short clear hose attached. I went searching for my water pump and found just what you showed.

Opened one valve, closed the other, switched on the pump and it worked perfectly. Only problem is I wasted so much antifreeze messing around with the city water fill and the garden hose I didn't have enough to finish.

Thank you very much. This forum is definitely more helpful then the poorly written manuals that came with the trailer. Nowhere in the manuals winterizing section does it mention to do that.

What Crabman said.

Try closing the faucets, it may help the pump initially draw anti-freeze from the jug.

Also, I would avoid dumping anti-freeze into the fresh water tank to winterize the trailer.

One other thing - if you have an in-line water filter, maybe in the line to the kitchen sink, it should be removed and replaced with the plastic hose usually furnished with the trailer, before running anti-freeze through the lines.
